I made a new thread because the original posting I posted was in Old School Buell archive June 2014, which I can't find unless I do a search for my postings... I originally posted that I had a slight detonation at WOT in higher gears. Detonation Solved - After hours of research on the Web and several books came to the conclusion that the initial detonation came when I oversized the vacuum slide hole to 9/64" instead of 7/64", this created a lean condition. This problem was compounded when I installed the Dynatec DD2000-HD2E8P, set at curve 2, this curve advanced too quickly. After finding the curve for the stock Q Curve ignition, it was very mild and close to Curve 4 on the Dyna. I went ahead and replaced the vacuum slide, and put the OEM Q-Curve module back in and the detonation is gone completely, even after a long hard ride with temperatures in the 90's. (93 octane from BP) I have noticed I have lost the quick throttle response off idle and am considering drilling the slide to 7/64" and reinstalling the Dyna - set to curve 4. Thanks for your help, I mostly gained experience from my blunders. |

Go here first when you want to drill carburetors. http://www.nightrider.com/biketech/ (Message edited by mmmi_grad on August 31, 2014) |

Your on the right track....stick with the fourth curve before it cost you a motor. |

Thanks for your responses, Mike, I graduated MMI in Phoenix in 1987, GREAT course, my life made many different turns from there. Recommend to anyone. Charles, Thanks for the support!! Planning on these changes next week... work and weather permitting, if they don't work, I will go back to what I had that works. |

Today I put the Dyna ignition module back in set to Curve 4 with the rev limiter at 6500 rpm. No detonation... and I was able to wrap it up into the rev limiter, it is much more responsive thru low loads / rpm. I may go up Curve 3, after some more testing. Think I will not change the vacuum slide hole till maybe next spring when I freshen up the Carb. Here is a link to the dyna manual http://www.dynaonline.com/skins/downloads/instruct /D2K-HD2E.pdf The Q Curve is: (taken from "101 Harley Davidson Evolution Performance Products") Q-Curve rpm--------advance--------advance (no VOES) 1000-------20-------------17 1250-------21-------------17 1500-------21-------------17 1750-------23-------------17 2000-------24-------------17 2500-------26-------------19 3000-------28-------------22 3500-------32-------------24 4000-------35--(full adv)-n/a n/a Author Kip Woodrig did not include |
