Blasting SLO For Blast Fans! Disclaimer: This ride is in no way associated with Buell, the BADWEB, or any of its organizers. This is a voluntary gathering of fans of the Buell Blast. No one is leagally responsible for another on this ride or gathering - we all agree that we are responsible adults in charge of our own behavior, and that a safe and sober ride is our own responsibility and expected of us. Housing, feeding, and personal care is each our own responsiblity. Showing up for this voluntary event will be a sign of accord of the above statement and will be taken as acceptance of such. That said: Please make sure your bike is in good working order, that you are in good working order, and that you are prepared for any contingencies that may occur (a cell phone and Brag Roadside Assistance Membership would be a great idea, any tools you feel you'll need, etc.). I will reserve a small block of rooms (4 probably), however, such rooms will be shared and any other lodging arrangements will be your own responsibility - so if you want your own room - you'll need to arrange such. The Idea and goal of this event is to meet and share a little time together having fun and enjoying a ride! Each of us may participate as much or little as they please, however, thanks to those participating so far it looks to be a promising start to a fun event! So the three different routes so far 1) Hwy 1 almost all the way - not likely - would need a perfect coastal day all the way down - not likely in April, however, it could happen - lol - 2) Hwy 1 to Hwy 35 (Skyline) to Hwy 9E to Hwy 85S to Hwy 101 to 25 to Peach Tree Rd to Indian Valley rd, then 3rd right as you enter San Miguel to 101S to SLO. 3) If totally Inclement Weather - 101S all the way down - yawn but safe considering - will not take this wispers to the back of my mind constantly. California is a darn big state and although there are a lot of Blasterds here - hardly any of us have met in person! I was talking with Gearheaderiko/Eric on the phone and we mentioned how great it would be if we could all put some faces to the names! So I got together with Eric and James and decided that San Luis Obospo would be a great half way point and that we should start organizing a meet/rides - this is the result! So how about it? April third the North and South groups, and any others who wish to meet head for San Luis Obispo - either with a group or by yourself - rooms will be reserved by various folk (I will reserve several also) - and you can share or get your own. A night of meeting fellow Blastards and tale swapping and then crashing in preperation for an area ride the next day. I figure we can get a nice day of riding in together, followed by dinner and Eric mentioned getting some folks together for a nite ride - it being a college town - I'm sure there is plenty of trouble to get into if you tried! Monday morning we all head off for home! A simple, fun idea! Woo Woo! - just finished reservations for a core of four rooms at the Travel Lodge - 1825 Monterey street - San Luis Obispo - ph. (805) 543 - 5110. 1 smoking and 3 non - double oc. ;0) - Least expensive I could find that doesn't also sponser roach wrestling contests - lol - if anyone else has Ideas for lodging - please let me know. So we will meet IN San Francisco at 9th. Ave and Judah at the Beanery Café (best coffee in SF!) at 8am and be on the road by 9am. Maps will be provided and the rest of the choices are yours! This looks to be a lot of fun and the middle route promises to be the most fun, and the best scenery for the time. Sunday will be a few local rides and spent meeting So. Cal. Blastards and having fun – Monday – back home – again by one of the three routes! Hope to see you there! Ed Zick – AKA - EZBLAST – BADWEB Thumper Moderator & all around Blastard and Blastaholic! EZ- Loli and I are in. Any more news on the SoCal Contingent yet? I believe Erik and James along with the Lepprechaun and the Terrorist are all we've got. Are there any more rooms left, EZ? We'll take a non smoker if ya got one. I'll post a couple of routes to get to SLO from SoCal and we can make a decision. BTW, where are we the SoCal folks gonna meet? I know Erik and James have more of a ride than I do. Loli and I are pretty open to whatever whoever wants to do and can handle as long or short segments as everyone is comfy with. -Saro |

I will not be attending the Cal Blast-a-thon, and it's not because I don't want to meet you guys. Here's why: The owner of the company that I work for (Alfa Leisure), Johnnie Crean, is the head of SCCA Cal-Club that runs a lot of it's events through California Speedway (Fontana). Cal-Club provides corner-workers (flaggers) for the AMA Superbike weekend April 2-4. Johnnie has asked me to help cornerwork the race and has offered me the day off on the second. Without thinking of the dates, I have allready agreed to cornerwork the race. To cancel on Johnnie would probably be foolish, and I really don't want to miss this opportunity. Hopefully I can meet you guys at a later date, maybe at OktoberFast, or Al Lighton's BBQ. I'm sorry that I won't be able to make the get together. James |

Ah well sooner or later - just another excuse for another road trip down the line - lol - Going to miss ya James! I'll make sure to hoist one in your name! Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ-Did you finally get a head count? Still only 3 confirmed from OC. (2 possibles) Do you have whose staying in what rooms?(Travelodge) And there are no rooms available at the Travelodge-so do we need to get rooms at a 2nd motel?(Super 8?) (Yes, there are CalPoly events, apparently!) I got a room at the Super 8 (1951 Monterey) just in case!

I've got some routes planned but I haven't had time to put anything up on 'em yet. Guess I've been kinda busy. Interesting thing about doing a Blast ride is that so many Blast riders * Are beginners * Don't really ride their bikes much * Have doubts about the bike's (not the ass / seat relationship) abilities to go distances. We ran across a couple of new riders and this would have been WAY too much for them. I know one other guy with a Blast who just plain can't handle riding ANYTHING for much more than 45 minutes. The people I've been considering are those who I personally know wouldn't put a group in danger and who would not be putting themselves in undue stress / distress from going on a potentially intimating (for a newby) ride. Still keeping my eyes open... -Saro |

Good points Saro. I have been telling people this is a "no pressure" ride and being prepared to hang back with those less confident. But some people also need a little encouragement to do a little more.I see the 'abuse' Sportster riders get (& I'm sure the Blasters get it) to move up to a 'big twin'. I'd rather push them to do a little more riding instead. Yeah, I've almost been taken out by a few boneheads over the years,so you bring up a good point-With a group ride (especially with newbies) you've got to set down some ground rules, for everyones safety. No Passing (unless you absolutely sure the person in front of you knows your coming and its safe to do so). Stay in formation and know what that formation is. Fast riders in front, slower in the rear. No horseplay! Know your limitations. If you think its too fast or unsafe-Dont do it. I really dont like group rides. For me it takes some of the fun out of it as I like to go my own pace, sometimes enjoying the scenery, sometimes pushing the corners. This one I'm really looking forward too, as for me, its more for the gathering than the actual ride! I'll be encouraging that we hang around the speed limit - lol - but with the curves - that part won't be too hard - and with the rest - well we are not playing ditch em, so I figure no one will get lost - and the route is pretty direct for all its curve - and there is a choice of three routes - lol- depending on the time one wants to take to get there - so no one is being forced to take the one I'm taking. Smokers - me and Scott in one room, Saro and Lotti (hope I got spelling right) in one, Paul and Ryan, Rex and open (perhaps Diane?), You in super 8 and other room Carl and open? - We should be ok - depends on if any last minute folks show - lol - even then we should be ok - great job! Should be a lot of fun! The roads I picked are considered some of Cali's most scenic - so though it stretches the trip out time wise - the views are excellent! Got Thump?! Erik- I'll give ya a buzz. I assume you mean 5 or 6 PM... EZ- There's a reason they call me Genius Boy - and it's not 'cause I'm smart. I realized that, essentially, there's gonna be one ride with the whole group - Sunday. Saturday & Monday are travel days - and some of us may make rides out of the travel. I think Erik and pal may be returning on Sunday - and the 58 & 33 will be a great place for them to head south. Ah, the 33.... Soooooooooo........ I know first hand that the Blasts will make the run across the 58. That is WAY good news. What really remains is how we decide to handle the return trip - and that will likely be an on-the-spot vote. There are a few options and lengths of routes. I keep forgetting to post what I've got - which is at home. I'll try to get it posted tonight. -Saro |

A little bad news to go with the good - Erik - aka Gearheaderiko - got in an accident - a broken foot, thumb, and a gash on his head - he's in ICU on watch because they want to make sure no internal clotting travels, etc. - Carol - his lovely fiancee let me know - he'll hopefully be fine - I don't think he'll be caging because of the foot, Still I want to wish him a speedy recovery and I'm sure you'll wish to do the same so send him some emails! I'll try to keep you updated while he's not on line. Sigh - yes that means one less, however, I have been informed that Eric from the far land of Arizona - lol - is trying to make it - he told me he's 90% there. This was hard for me to write because I consider Erik a friend and will sorely miss his being there - ah well - next time! Get Well Erik! Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side!
