While on my way to work tonight an officer pulled me over. My first thought was he saw the frony wheel off the ground a ways back. But turns out my rear running light was out. Luckily stop lights working still. I have done a (half a**)search and couldnt find bulb replacment size. Came across a thread on another forum about 1157 leds fitting as stock replacers. Is this correct. Im am hoping not to order any from HD And have to wait a week because I work 11pm-730am really dont drive unless rain or snow but really Dont want a ticket or to be crushed by a cager.

Its a standard automotive bulb. Make sure your horn works, I think they're on the same fuse. Or swap to either a 2010 factory led taillight, or an XBLights light (the only 2 led options that are worth a damn).

Yea 1157 sounds like the right size bulb off the top of my head, available anywhere that sells car parts including Target/Walmart. Don't bother with LED bulbs, they absolutely suck, if you want LEDs do it right and buy an LED tail lamp assembly. Like Ratbuell mentioned, either the stock 2010 XB/1125 taillamp which is LED, or one from XBLights. I have XBlights on both my 1125s, they are expensive but well worth the cost.

Agree with Froggy. I'm a total LED geek. A standard incandescent 1157 bulb will work better than "most" of the 1157 bulbs. Unless you get one of the nicer ones like at superbrightleds.com which still will be about as bright as a regular 1157, but last almost forever (mtbf still happens).

looking there again (a regular check) - there are a lot of improved versions out now. I've always had trouble with fitment as the LEDs above the base usually interfere with the fit into the socket... Here's a bright option:

Before someone comments - yes i know this is a 1156 base pictured. it's their example to compare, the 1157 will be same dimensions just with a dual contact on base and the higher post on one side.

unfortunately only comes in white (I like red in red lenses, amber in amber, etc.).

At $27+s/h that may be $30 you should just spend towards an XBLights conversion. What i have on my 25R and love it. With the brake modulator for increased visibility and additional LED bars at the back sides for blinkers and additional red brake lights - $$ but totally worth it IMO.

I did say i was a LED geek...

Thanks everyone. Xb's are on my list for later this season or over the winter. I bought my 09R in nov. 2013 and only got to put 120miles on before the snow started flying and she was put away. So over last winter did the ebr ecm for, jardine rt5 (was already on it).ebr rotor upgrade stock stator looked healthy still, also had to replace the sprag cuz it would free spin alot on startups, ebr clutch acuator, pulled HD Stator shunt off, found a rear cowl for passenger seat, and a set of Buell lower fairings. Xb light and maybe a belly pan this next off season

So replaced with a $5 set of 1157 bulbs when on squeeze brake lever the brake works and goes back to running after released install the red lense back on only running light goes no brake light now. So exact opposite of last night. Wtf? Took the lense off and same issue no brake light only running. Put new bulb in and everything worked right again. Placed red lense back over and... no brake light. Could there be a short. I just find it odd the brake light was working and no running light now its the opposite.

You can also make your own. Quick google search shows lot's of instructions out there for doing it. All it takes is some knowledge.

Possibly cheap bulbs too. I bought an led and put in and relized it was amber. I wanted to see what it looked like with amber through red lens. Ugly but it was working no problem so maybe my bike is just burning the filement in the cheapos. They are too hot to touch only after being on <less than a min

Figured it out. Inside the actual housing the contacts were worn, needle nose pliers and bent it back into shape. Easy fix.
