Bought a 2009 XB12XT in good condition. The bike is stock. I enjoying riding it and intend to keep it. What modifications would you recommend to better fit a Uly to a tall rider? | ||

All of the things big island rider did, plus the following link shows a mod that gives me almost 2 feet from peg to seat. I did redo the mod and melted a hole in the airbox for the fwd bracket on the seat. Thus jacked things up and is solid. Also just installed full length bead rider. Only 15 bucks amazon.com. I would seriously entertain trading if you're interested. I came very close to buying new XT suspension bits a few years ago. The X height is manageable for me in the flatlands, but it can be a handful in the mountains when I have to stop on a banked, climbing turn or when I'm riding 2-up. | ||

Thanks guys but I have not done any of the first three mods to my Uly as I am only 6 foot. I do have big hands though. I put forth the list from what I have seen and what I would do if I were as tall as Sleddriver | ||

Excellent advice! Thank you. A couple follow up questions: 1) what is a good manufacture for 2" bar risers and 2" drop foot pegs? 2) do the Grip puppies help hand fatigue ? Hughlysses - if you didn't live so far away, I'd take you up on you offer... and, we could have geeked swapping engineer stories while swapping suspensions. I was reading on the precision engineering website and apparently the stock Uly pegs are already 1" drop compared to other XB models. The 2in drop pegs at preeng are actually a 1in drop relative to stock pegs. I'm about 6'-2" and thinking about buying the preeng 1" bar risers and 2" drop pegs to give me a little more leg room and a more upright seating position. Any one that has done this mod, let me know if you think this will be too much for my height... | ||

That is correct, the drop is the distance from the peg mount, the stock Uly and Lightning pegs are 1" drop, stock 1125R and Firebolts have no drop. Like you said, 2" drop pegs would be 1" more than stock. Regarding the risers and pegs, everyone's body is different, even someone with your height could have significantly different arm length or leg inseam, plus own personal preferences and biases skewing what is comfortable for them. It won't always translate into what is good for you. | ||

The grip puppies have helped with hand fatigue. They are cushy without being squishy. Increased the grip radius from 4" to 5". Less hand flex and a more natural position. | ||

It won't always translate into what is good for you. That's a very good point! I already know I want the extra leg space because I feel a little cramped with the current setup. I like the look of the 1in bar riser at preeng and they are only $37. Even if I get them on and hate the way the combo feels all I did was give a little extra money to one of the Badweb sponsors. | ||

Agreed, height is not the only factor. I'm only 6'4" but I have a 37" inseam. From the waist up I'm pretty normal so I'm running the lowered pegs but stock bars. This works fine on the pavement but when I go off road and need to stand up, the higher bars would help a lot. I'm thinking this Winter I will be tweaking the Uly. |
