In the video you can see the forks are gold indicating the Ohlins rather than the Showas that are on the 1190RX. Looks like a RS to me. Perhaps they got some sort of exception.

Perhaps they got some sort of exception.

I'd be very surprised if the tech team give any exceptions given the amount of cheating allegations flying around in Superstock already.

Maybe the people at BSB just don't know the difference between an RS and RX model, or just don't care as they don't think it will be an issue?

If it gets into the top ten I would expect some form of protest from a regular top team if it is an RS though (assuming they know the difference if course).

The BSB Superstock rules are very clear that the model has to be FIM homologated before it is eligible. The RX is FIM homolgated but the RS never was (I think).

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the British Superstock requires that the bike be homulgated by the FIM. As I read the the FIM homulgation rules they are the same for Superbike and Superstock. So it appears to be if a particular model is legal for WSBK it would be legal for British 1000 Superstock. Hence a stock 1190RS should be legal.

This is the 2014 list of homologated models. EBR have the RX homologated but NOT the RS.

http://www.fim-live.com/fileadmin/alfresco/Listing _of_FIM_homologated_motorcycles_for_2014,_Updated_ 19_February.pdf

There is a caveat in the BSB rules that says they can allow a bike if they believe it 'would be eligible under FIM rules for homologation', although that would be stretching it a bit for the RS as there were not enough made to justify that claim.

The difference in the RS and the RX in race trim may be non-existent. The RX's they're running in WSBK are using RS radiators (more compact and much more expensive). I'd think any engine parts which would be different between the two bikes in stock trim would be the same for racing.

Come to think of it, Larry Pegram's RS was apparently raced as an RX at Laguna Seca. The only change that was specifically cited was that he had to change to the aluminum wheels of the RX as the magnesium units on the RS weren't legal in WSBK.

The big difference between the RX and RS in race trim would be the suspension. It would not matter for a Superbike class, but I suspect that a Superstock class would not allow changing the forks, but maybe British Superstock allows it.

The superstock rules allow them to change the shocks and forks so its a non issue. The major differences between the RX and RS in race trim are engine internals, and (a few) carbon fiber components. Seems like everyone associated with EBR refers to either bike in RACE SPECIFICATION as an RS. It may well be a slip of the tougne ah la saying Kleenex when one really means tissue.

I'd think any engine parts which would be different between the two bikes in stock trim would be the same for racing.

But the Superstock rules specifically prohibit fitting or changing to different engine components.

I would hope that they are referring to it as an RS just as a figure of speach, otherwise it could be embarrassing on Saturday when they roll up for first practice.

FP1 has just finished. Cory was 32nd with a time of 1'41.973.

Leading time was Danny Buchan on the Kawasaki in 1'37.392

FP2 is this afternoon at around 3pm (UK time).

As the EBR is listed as a wild card entry and not as a series regular, it may be that it has been given dispensation to run as an un-homologated RS.

Superstock is always very tight because they are all pretty stock bikes. The top riders are the ones who make the difference in this class, so it is no surprise that the top 4 have all raced in BSB Superbike recently.

Man they ride Kawasakis much in the BSB? I mean with the world champ on one you'd figure at least somebody would ride one? Sheesh!

Stock that's the bike to be on, IMHO. The ZX-10 is cleaning house in the CMRA.

Cory tweet from today.

@Corywest13: Notes from today; Oulton is wicked, field is deep, riders are fast, short sessions, I'm the only twin and I'm learning fast! #nevergiveup

I figure that he is not really pushing it since he doesn't have a spare bike, just taking his time, playing it smart, and learning the track. He showed some improvement this afternoon and I bet he moves up the ladder tomorrow.

Oulton is wicked

Well he found another second which could mean he's learning the track. No mean thing for Oulton! It's got bags of character. I remember racing there myself a few years ago in BTCC Playstation 2 but with seat, steering wheel and pedals. Much better than a hand controller lol.

He didn't improve much this morning and appeared to be having issues. Only 9 laps completed, in the pits a lot the last 10 min. Qualified 33 3.38 sec off the pace.

I just found out that they decided to hold the 1000 Superstock race today because of the threat of bad weather tomorrow. He improved on his 33rd grid and picked up 8 places to finish 25th.

That seems like a respectable finish for a first effort.

Go Cory!

Cory's tweet

@Corywest13: 25th today from 33rd grid spot. Ran into clutch issue in QP2 and then quick shifter stopped halfway thru the race. It was difficult but fun!

Seems like a great first outing with a new team, on a new, but similar bike and on a circuit he hasn't seen before. Showed the learing curve that you would expect. Moved up a few places in the race cut off some time. Nice job, Cory.
