This is a long story but I'll try to summarize  i lost my airbox on a ride and it got run over, it was the pro-series intake. I've replaced it but now i'm getting great gas mileage 10 or more miles more than before, I'm a little worried that I'm running lean the original mod was done by the previous owner and I am not sure weather or not he did anything with the carb. Should I be worried | ||

That could be, I replaced it with the superboot just after the airbox fiasco (the airbox was blown off by a backfire through the carb) but these boots dont seem to last very long. Does the pro-series intake and exaust require any carb adjustment? | ||

My bike had 10,000 miles with pro-series exhaust and intake with 45/165 jet, middle groove on the needle, 3 turns on mixture screw. I got 51 mpg at normal highway speeds. It may have been a tad lean though. | ||

45/170 jetting, shim needle with 2 #4 washers, 2 1/2 turns out - and don't tighten supper boot too tight. EZ | ||

51 mpg is a bit low. Vsingle, you don't have a stock carb set-up, so its rather pointless to compare to it, unless somebody is running that needle (which at this point is of unknown origin, but works). | ||

Anybody ever THINK to check the IGNITION TIMING before doing the CARBURETOR TUNE UP ??? | ||

Gearheaderiko: what should mileage be like with my set-up (pro-series intake, jardine pipe/muffler)? The mileage I am getting seems to vary a lot with speed. Steady 60mph gets me 48mpg. 70mph drops it to about 44mpg. 75-80 knocks it down to 36mpg. I know this data after putting on over 800 cross-country miles over the past two days. | ||

What speed at a steady state to get 50mpg? I'm on the road right now, holding steady at 70mph; about 68 degrees. Slight headwind. With saddlebags and about 240 total load. I'm getting 32-35 mpg. Just checked tire pressure, it was 28f, 32r. Fresh mt75 on back. Oil consumption is 8oz per 500 miles. | ||

With that weight - bring both tires to 32 psi. Your spittin oil into the carb at 70 mph - bring it down to 65 mph steady - a heavy hand brings the mileage down - but with a single that is hard not to do. EZ | ||

Just made a test run of 96 miles on freeway at 65mph with no saddlebags; 49.844 mpg. Up and back on the same stretch of road. |
