So I just got my old 2001 Buell Blast back from my brother and he had it serviced but while he was riding it the tailpipe was so rusted it broke off at the muffler so I'm just gonna put a new aftermarket exhaust on it instead of trying to use the old rusted one. I'm planning to upgrade the pipe along with a new air filter and re-jet kit. My questions are what is the best air filter to get and are their any tricks to getting the pipe off, air filter or re-jetting? Also any recommendations on what kind of aftermarket parts to get is appreciated! Looking to keep it low cost because ultimately I'm saving for a bigger bike!

Logan,

The first thing to do is start spraying the studs and nuts, that hold the header onto the head, with PB Blaster. Spray them frequently until you are ready to remove them. The one stud is difficult to get at and you need a 1/2" socket with the universal joint built into the socket to get at the one nut.

I am not sure what year Buell went to the thicker flange for the exhaust header but you will need that and longer studs and new nuts. Also, you will need a new gasket and the cone shaped gasket is easier to use than the other gasket that will fit.

The parts are readily available at any Buell friendly Harley shop.

Dan aka Thumpe has the complete air intake setup along with the jets that you will need. The exhaust system is a matter of choice, but some say the Jardine is superior to the others available.

I just did a pipe/muffler upgrade to Jardine RT-1. I really like it!

Vsingle - you used the stock lower front hardware - not what they supplied you - correct?

Yes - I ditched the supplied conical aluminum washers and used the stock rubber mounts.

I was saving for a different bike also. Now I just want to ride the wheels off my Blast, and then rebuild and improve what I have discovered is the perfect bike for me.

Whew - should last a lot longer that way! That solid mount is NG - even D&D uses the stock system.

Kenny,

Thanks for the advice this will come in handy. Quick question, how can I get in contact with Dan to get the air intake setup and jet? Thanks!
