There is this little green / yellow (I think) / Red circle light on my gauge cluster right below the low fuel warning... and I can't find anything about it in my Owner's manual or in the service manual. Photos below. Normally it flashes red a few times and goes green when I start the bike, but recently (this week) has taken to staying red or just today, flashing red while I ride. Flashing red scares me. Any help so I can figure this out? Thanks for the help! Todd

That is an aftermarket voltage monitor. Good news is that the previous owner had enough foresight to install one, as it just saved you from walking home. Flashing red means you have a charging issue and have low voltage, which could be a failing battery, stator, 77 connector, or voltage regulator. |

That's your "Fatty Mod" doing exactly what it was intended to do Telling you that your charging system is failing. |

Thanks! Good to know, and good to know I'm not crazy and just missing things in my Owner's manual. I just replaced the battery this year, so hopefully shouldn't be that. So I guess I'm looking up with a stator, 77 connector, and voltage regulator are and how to diagnose. Time to do some searching on here. Thanks so much! |

Signal Dynamics voltage monitor. Red indicates no charge (key on, engine not running) yellow indicates low charge, green means good charge. Flashing green means voltage too high, IOW your voltage regulator crapped out. Good thing to have on a bike, ask me how I know. |

I have a Signal Dynamics Voltage Monitor, I don't need. Just pay shipping... Volt monitor has been claimed. (Message edited by teeps on July 31, 2014) |

First thing I would check as that is the easiest in my opinion is the 77 connector, take a look at this guide - http://docs.google.com/view?docid=d4rbxwr_20dq5khf |

Not sure he has to check anything, given that the oil light is also illuminated I assume this photo was taken with the engine not running. |

Yeah, if the engine had been running, the picture would be blurry. |

OP did say he is getting flashing red (less than 12V) while he is riding, so he indeed has some kind of issue. |

haha - on the blurry if the engine was on... Yes it would be... she shakes good. But - it does flash red while I'm riding on the highway (oil light does not stay on.) Thank you all for the advice and the guides, glad I checked up on this before it died at a light or something. I'll keep you posted, thanks all! Todd |

is the red light inside the dash? is that red LED already in the dash or do you have to install it? |

Works great . . . . I've been doing a lot of night riding the last month . . . I depend on the monitor to help me manage power between various lights, heated grips and accessories. |

Court - I'd highly recommend the Shindengen voltage regulator. I did mine as a repair when my VR crapped out...but it is absolutely an upgrade. My voltmeter is ROCK-solid now, I have to turn on aux lights, high beam, heated grips on high, and heated jacket...at IDLE...to get the voltage to drop. There's a thread on here somewhere, where I documented my install on the '06.... |

Court, I'm here to amen Ratbuell. I used the same regulator for the 08 as he used on the 06. Fixed my charging issues. |
