Well, last week I was thinking to myself, "this uly is running better than ever". This week my check engine light has come on every morning for about 30 seconds after the bike has been running for 1 to 2 minutes. The bike runs really rough while the light is on, then the check engine light goes away and everything is back to normal. No other symptoms. Any ideas??

Maybe a spark plug wire not fully seated on the spark plug!?

Do you have a way to check the code?

Maybe check the fuel pressure. If the fuel pump is under performing ie not the correct pressure, they will create a sputtering start, and when pressure builds, then everything seems normal.

This actually just happened to me with my silverado. It also put up a code for a lean condition.

Worked on it this weekend. Cleaned up all the ground connections, cleaned / tightened battery connections. Thought maybe I had some loose connection since this is only a cold start up issue. It ran great Saturday and Sunday with no CEL on start up. This morning back to the same problem. It does look like my idle is set a little low and I am due for a TPS reset. I'll adjust the idle this evening. Would either of those cause momentary CEL?

Why speculate about the code when you haven't provided the code number.

Code is 14. Engine Temp. Not sure why I would get a Engine Temp CEL during cold start up. Bad sensor?

If it has rubbed through the insulation on the wire, the vibes from cranking it over could be shorting it out against the head or something.

Natexlh1000 - you were right. Finally had a chance to pull things apart a little and found that the wire was rubbing against the frame. It was down to bare copper. Fixed it and relocated the wire so that it was no longer in contact with the frame. No more CEL and it's running much better.
