My '08 Ulysses has been running rough not idling only had it out a few times this year blamed it on old gas with stabilizer. I topped it up with premium and added 6oz of sea foam . It ran better after some riding. Then on two occasions I had a total electrical shutdown while riding. First time the engine light came on a second before I was riding at 30 mph and coasted to a stop clutch in. Speedo and tach frozen in place no electric working. Checked the fuses none blown but in pulling the battery fuse it reset the instruments to zero and the bike started and ran great. The next day bike ran great for about an hour, smooth idle then when starting in traffic same issue total shutdown. This time I tried the same thing but had to disconnect the battery to get the reset. Again ran great on the hour return trip. I am running EBR ECM with special ops exhaust. Any suggestions? |

Take the Battery and have it load tested at Battery's plus.Check the spark plug's if black replace. Drain all the fuel from the fuel tank. Reset the adaptive fuel value let Idle for ten minutes then ride. |

Check your ECM plugs for cracks. The Ulys with low seats tend to put pressure on the ECM which can cause intermittent electrical issues, particularly after the bike has been running awhile (pressure from the rider on the seat + heat from the engine make the plastic more malleable). I had the same issue, ECM relocation solved the problem. Do a quick search on here or the Big Bad n' Dirty board for "ECM Relocation". |

For your INFO if you have a dollar tree near you the fuel injector cleaner they sell{made in USA} has methanol which is good for asorbing moisture out of the fuel tank, follow instruction for amount to use. Of course $1.00.{O2 sensor safe}. |

Thanks for the suggestions, for far I've done the following: Fuel conditioner (should have dealt with any moisture into my second tank of fuel as well) Pulled and examined the ECM, no signs of cracks, no signs of contact wear or rubbing on the seat I did discover that the pos. battery cable wasn't snug, maybe the vibration caused some power interruption/voltage issues? Planning to relocate the ECM now I have everything apart, is there a preferred method for that? Thanks again |

Fuel can cause a bike shutdown but not normally lock up the electrical system. Unless a sensor gives the ECM an error message. I think the pos. terminal loose can cause multiple problems of course. Good luck and please keep us informed. |

Hey, I relocated the ECM between the battery and fuse box. A little bending on the right side of battery basket let the battery slide more to that side giving room for the ECM. Also bent the bracket on the left side for a little more room. I made a few cuts and took a little metal off the front edge of the battery basket next to the fuse box to let the ECM slide down further away from the seat. Added protective tape to any metal touching the ECM One connector was touching a bracket attached to the battery basket (not sure what it for nothing was ever attached to it) I tweaked it a little till there was some clearance. I slid a small piece of rubber between the metal and the ECM after I had it in place to help with vibration. I didn't cut the seat bottom, the ECM is sitting lower than the fuse box now, should be safe enough. 3 hr test run today was flawless. I used a wizz wheel to remove or modified what you have bent on the battery metal base bracket. Then I filed any sharp edges or burrs smooth. I took the bad ecm and wizz wheel open the hard plastic case that contains the electronics. The electronic components have a potting rubbery substance to asorb any vibration.I think the failure was the pins solder points on the circuit board. I replaced with new ECM{By the way good job. I have been riding trouble free and hope same to you. |

Just an update. The buell ran flawlessly all summer and into the fall, the ECM was definitely the issue, luckily no cracks from the pressure on the ecm. Easy fix, should do it as preventative maintenance especially if your a manly weight in the saddle 😉 |

I end up wizz wheeling both sides of the batt tray to remove any rubbing on ecm after I notice slight mild rubbing on connector. All is good I ride two up no problems with the location we have used. |
