AAAAAHHHH - so this is how a 1203cc Buell X1 is supposed to run!! Last Saturday, I put the Buell Pro Series (Supertrapp IDS) muffler on, installed the Race ECM, and put the K&N in the factory air box. It ran better right away, but I hadn't yet had the TPS reset. Yesterday I had the Harley dealer reset the TPS. All I can say is "WOW!" I can't believe how different this bike runs now. It has some wicked midrange now, and feels considerably stronger up top. The idle (with a little blip of the throttle every few seconds!) sounds ten times better than stock. This is how Buell should have made them, but I understand the government plays a role in that equation! I can't wait to ride it to work tomorrow... Mike M |

Dave, thanks again for getting it to me more quickly than I thought I'd see it. Bolting it all on couldn't have been easier - I guess "car time" does equate to "bike time" when hand tools and weekends are involved. It runs great, sounds great, and even looks better! Mike M |

speaking of X1's, Shreveport Harley has #800 for sale..$5400, already race kitted...is that a fair price? I think it has about 8000 miles... |

You'll like that Race ECM ! I would have never thought a muffler/ECM/K&N would make so much of a difference. I figured it would be different, but not by this much. It's almost like it wakes the engine up ..... Mike M |

sweet, i already gutted the airbox, and have the IDS suppertrapp, and i have extra discs waiting for that ECM so i can get to 21 disc set-up... maybe now i can keep up with Spidy and his Frankenstein bike... but who knows. the only problem is getting the bike to a dealership after i get the ECM to get the TPS re-set. but that sounds like a ROAD TRIP!

I guess I'm lucky to have three Harley dealerships within 15 miles. And at least one of them knows how to do a TPS reset properly! Mine ran well enough to get to the dealer while awaiting reset, but I did avoid high revs since I couldn't know how good (or bad?) it was doing A/F and timing. But after the reset - BAM!!! Mike M |

well i have a dealer about 10-15 miles from me, but they are retards... i am sure they can re-set the TPS but i am debating installing the ECM at my house and riding out there, or install it at the dealership in the parking lot.. then have them Re-set it. or just take it to Tony at American and have him do the re-set... hehehe FREE FREE FREE!! |

It's easy to swap, just take it with you and replace it in the parking lot. Two screws/bolts, and two connectors to pull off. I test rode mine around the neighborhood for a few miles before heading to the dealership. And in my pocket during the journey was the factory ECM with the tools I needed to swap it ... just in case! nice... well just been talking with Dave, getting the Race ECM purchase underway.. so could be interesting.. problem i am finding is no harley dealership around me will just re-set the TPS and let me take off, they all want me to drop my bike off over night... I MEAN WHAT THE HELL!!??? i have seen Spidy do the re-set. Takes him 10-15 minutes, and that is including taking the seat off and putting it back on.. come on.. sometimes dealerships around me piss me off... I JUST WANT TO GO FASTER!!!!! |

Adam, why don't you just see if we can 'borrow' the scanalyzer and do it in the garage? That is complete bullshit. I'd say demand to speak to a manager and find out why a 20 minute job should require the bike to be left overnight, but you don't want them touching your bike anyways. |

Borrow their scanalyzer?? hahahaha!! I don't know any dealer that is going to borrow a $2500 piece of equipment to you!! |

well lets just say that we have an inside source.. and that source is sick of someone at the shop bitching, so no more tool borrowing at all.... so that is why i have to find a local dealer... and i am stuck... kind of sucks.. |

Blackbelt, I've been to three of the "Buell" dealerships in the Detroit region, haven't made it to AnnArbor yet. Do you mean to say that none of the three I've been to will do a reset while you wait? Not even with a pre-arranged appointment? That totally sucks. |

Mike - Adam's way up by Flint. If he came down out way I'm sure American or Motor City could get it done quicker for him. But that's 80 miles just for a TPS reset. LOL Ahh, the joy's of being a FI Bueller. |

Ah, I sort of thought he was down in the Dearborn region since he mentioned watching Spidey do a reset. Is Motor City the one in Farmington? I've been to that shop a couple of times. Been to the one near the airport exactly twice. I've also been to one up near where Chrysler is. I like my carb, I like my carb, I like my carb, .... |

Yes, Motor City is in Farmington. Motown is prolly the one 'near the airport' (Telegraph and Eureka). Shittiest Buell dealer I've had the misfortune of going to. It took them two days to put a new tire on my Blast wheel - and I had already removed it from the bike. One of more examples than I care to cite. I heard that they changed ownership a while ago but I haven't gone back to see if things are any different. Course, I don'tt particularly care for ANY dealership any more, but if I'm stuck I go to American. I can count on Spidey to make sure they don't screw things up too badly. |

Jon, there is a guy named Mike (aka "Arizona) at Livermore HD that actually knows a thing or two about Buells. He did my TPS reset after I put the Race ECM in. It took about 20 minutes once he got the PC all set up. And no, they didn't even think of asking me to leave the bike overnight. I told them I would wait (and watch!) Millenium, When the TPS was reset, did you just then drive away? Reason I am asking is that while I am enjoying an improvement in riding enjoyment since having the kit installed (Modesto of course!!), the bike sputters and wants to die if I crack the throttle from idle. How does your's run at varying RPMs?

Adam, Those guys at the place in Burton are useless... I had my bike 'fixed' at Detroit (Motown) HD after it was wrecked in Southfield (damn towtruck). They charged me for a TON of parts that were never installed, or even ordered, a header, primary case, shifter, bars etc., but I had a very limited time to pick the bike up between when school ended and I could take it back to PA. It took numerous calls to their owner and the treat of letting the insurance company know what they charged them for without replacing parts. I eventually got a check from them to cover some of the parts, but not close to all. They suck as Buell dealers, and I think they have some big moral issues as to what they charge their customers. If you need to get your bike down to Spidey, toss it in the back of your truck and take it down. If you need help, I've got a ramp at the Pike House, and 50 guys willing to help toss her in the back. Bring it over some day before work, and we'll get her loaded up for ya. I'll be back in about a week and a half. Alex |

No truck needed - ride it down there, install Race ECM in parking lot, reset TPS, ride back. It's not like it's a Firebolt and you've gotta take the front end apart to get at the ECM. |

Darthane, I guess my thoughts were riding all the way to Spidey if the bike wasn't behaving quite right. The roads to Ann Arbor aren't any fun either, all straight from Clio. Cool enough though. Alex |

Jon, mine hasn't so much as hiccuped since the Race ECM and TPS reset. It idles smoother, doesn't sputter or spit, and runs better from off-idle, through midrange, to top end. Maybe I got lucky?! After doing the TPS, the tech that did so took the bike out for a ride (5 mins maybe). I then took the freeway home and stayed at a constant speed/rpm to do that whole open loop relearn cycle.... or is that closed loop? Whatever, one too many MGD's to recall! Mike M |

Alex, Well when i get the ECm i will drive the bike down to American HD, and have them re-set the TPS there... I trust them (at least spidy). And your right Cummins, in Burton, is USLESS!!! they don't know a piston from their own ass'es. Millenium, I hope that my bike runs as good as yours did. I just drove my bike to work this morning (about 72 miles one way) and she sputtered 2 times but nothing bad, just a little cough at 80 MPH. But i am just sitting patiently to get my karate check next week so i can go get my ECM, and install 6 more discs in my suppertrapp.

Adam, A few of us from the house are planning an early Saturday morning ride to Mackinac Bridge and back sometime in the spring as a shakedown for my ride this summer. I'll shoot you more info when I get more details. It would be nice to have another Buell among the Viffers and other random Jap bikes. Spidey is the shit Alex
