When my 06' fuel pump energizes it has always been loud as compared to my son's 07' which is whisper quiet. Quite a difference. Maybe they changed something for the 07 year or there is just a range of noise and that's that. Both have always worked well though. |

Highflowfuel.coms $70 fuel pump seems like a bargain compared to most Buell parts and it works with E85 gasahol. |

I wish I had time to order that one...but I have a girlfriend that wants to leave tomorrow for a four day trip....I just bought the auto zone pump and filter...$120 total with lifetime warranty |

Interesting... will E85 kill a stock pump? In one tank, or over time? I know you shouldn't run it, but if you are in a situation where it is that or you are pushing it, how often can you get away with it? |

Soon of a b$@! :-) now that I've disassembled the pump and filter I see what happened right away....there's a rubber bushing that makes the seal between the filter and the regulator....this bushing is hard as a rock...and in pieces...there is no way the injectors were getting the proper pressure. I'm wondering if I can find a replacement rubber if I would even need a pump? I guess I'm off to the hardware store to see what I can come up with....... |

Yeah I was going to say you may have a bad hose connection inside causing an internal pressure leak. That sounds realistic to fit your symptoms. Pump may be OK. Without being able to do a proper pressure test it will be a trial and error test if you don't leave the new pump in. If it were me and I had the new pump in hand I would use it. |

"but if you are in a situation where it is that or you are pushing it, how often can you get away with it?" I can't believe that one would do any damage running a tank of it in a pinch. O2 sensor might get confused and throw a code, but it would go off during the next tank of gasoline. I've never run it straight, but I have added a half gallon or so to my tank before when it was pinging really badly on a particular tank of fuel to up the octane level. Worked like a charm. The fuel system needs to be capable of pumping 40% or so more volume, so it may not work great at WOT with full-on E85 depending on what the stock parts are capable of flowing, though. |

"If it were me and I had the new pump in hand I would use it." I agree. The may have died pumping against that blockage. If you have the time and patience, then by all means, give it a try. I'd just put the new pump in, though. Is it possible any of those pieces passed through the regulator and into the rail / injectors? I hope not. |

All fixed up....I figured what the hell and tried the old pump.I just used two 1/2"sections of fuel line for the new bushings...worked like a charm. I did have to reuse the o rings and I do seem to have a small leak....it's moist but not dripping so I ordered new ones but will ride it for the weekend....I recovered all of the pieces so I'm not concerned about future blockage....I have to say....I really wasn't expecting to find something that the rest if you haven't gone thru....but if any of your bikes suddenly die and the pump still seems to run now we know it's worth a look. I'll post pics tonight when I get to my computer Thanks again for all of the help guys! Ten minds are definitely better than one when trying to troubleshoot |
