Shouldn't this thread be called 1190SX and not 1190RX?

Anyway, does anyone see anything different in the specs vs the RX?

Same gear ratios as the RX (gearbox, primary, and final drive), so so much for that speculation.

Oh, I'm sure it's adequately brutal. There was just speculation on another thread that the front sprocket appeared to be smaller due to the apparent chain angle.

A little taller (mirrors) a little wider (bars?) Thus a bit less lean angle. Less body work (minus 5 Lbs). and lighter by 2k. Bingo!

Sounds fun to me.

Don't see how changing sprocket will complicate TC. The sensors are going to detect slip and ecu react accordingly regardless of sprocket size

Tc is proactive and reactive. If you change ratio for faster than stock acceleration, the can kick in even though traction loss has not occured. You have now altered rate if max accel compared to throttle angle. I have nothing to back this up for sprocket change only. I know exhaust change requires engine tune then track time to re tune tc. And that is just for removing second muffler. I would think sprint change would be a bigger change.

I have a feeling this thing is going to do amazingly well. Coincidentally, Cycle World has a naked bike comparison in this month's issue. Unfortunately the test didn't include the 1190SX which hasn't "officially" been released yet, but since all the important stats on the 1190SX are the same as the RX, we can do a pretty good comparison:

table

The 1190SX should do at least as well as the 1190RX on every stat except maybe top speed and top speed in the quarter mile, where the fairing could provide a significant advantage.

Looks like the SX has stepped up to the plate.

^ I would guess mainly due to economy of scale. By making minimal changes from the RX, they kept development costs low and very few different parts are required. Now they can sell ~twice as many motorcycles so they can cut the cost.

The $2,000 (if that is correct. . . . I have trouble believing it) is a PRICE DIFFERENCE . . . not a "cost savings".

The cost of the bike plays a role, but is not the determining factor, in the selling price.

Take the less probable scenario. If you built something for $5,000 that xxxx folks (roughly the twice the number your could produce would pay $25,0000 for. You'd HAVE (it's chapter 2 in about an basic economics book) to raise the price to say . . .$30,000. Suppose there you discover that you can make 10,000 units and sell 12,000. You'd have to raise the price again, say to $34,995 where you could make 10,000 and there was demand for 10,000.

It works on the more probable scenario as well. The price represents the best guess (and it's not really a "guess" . . well, it's a damn educated one) of where the company can sell each bike they are capable of making.

I know there have been pricing discussions that have gotten pretty animated . . . . I'm eager to see what the final price actually is.

i wonder how many here would ante up, when it really comes time to write the check, $17,000 for a naked bike.

Maybe . .huh? Going up against the $13,495 MSRP Ducati Monster S . . . the one it will sit next to in many show rooms . . . could be interesting.

NOTE: the $13,495 is the "regular" (still more than 99% of the world can handle) Monster. . . the "S" model is actually MSRP $15,996 and likely leaving showrooms at around $14-500 - $15,000.

I am not sure where this all came from, i.e. the specs since the web address is not EBR, although, that being said, well.... Anyway, as you pointed out, sometimes a small company has to make concessions to the needs of the personnel. The webmaster is probably at his daughter's soccer tournament.

$16,995 for an 1190sx vs. $15,000 for the Ducati. Not a hard decision as it is worth something to buy the EBR and send the money to Wisconsin vs. Italy . Hopefully a little less though.

Well, they did say during the unofficial reveal that complete specs would be released somewhere around the first of July. I'd guess they're going to follow the traditional Buell release calendar which normally happened the first Friday (?) in July or so?

BTW, the price of $16995, if correct, is less than the $16999 list of the KTM Super Duke R, but more than the Aprilia Tuono, BMW S1000R, and Ducati Monster 1200S mentioned above.

I'm guessing that EBR is selling at capacity with the RX and don't want to sell at a reduced profit the SX at the reduction of RXs coming off the end of the line.

EBR.com does seem overdue for a general refresh. AFAIK it hasn't been touched since last October. The racing section still includes pics of Geoff and Danny from 2012 for one thing.

I'm betting we'll see a big update about 0700 EDT Friday morning, just like they used to do every July in the Buell days.

Now if it'll just include the AX and the AX will just come in at ~$15k...

I am chomping at the bit for the AX!

The wife is on board with me doing a fly, buy and ride home next June.

I have contacted a dealer in Bellevue, WA and he will pick me up at the airport.

I have a fellow rider that is willing to do the same thing and ride back to Columbus with me.

The $$$$$.$$ is in the bank.

Now all I need is for the AX to be available and at the dealer next June.

Mark (Wolfridgerider): "I don't think it will take much talking to bring him into the fold", so

Just tell him how he could add all the accessories he wanted such as hard bags, tank bag, rear suitcase and much else and still be 200#'s less the the Beemer, if he wants a very high performance "sport" tourer. YA!

Over 200Lbs less weight and 25 more ponies.

That is if the AX has the same mill as the RX and SX.

Peak Torque 101.6 ft-lbs @ 8200 rpm
(137.8 nm @ 8200 rpm)
Peak Horsepower 185 hp @ 10600 rpm

Just wondering compare to the 1125 Say with a EBR ecm and pipe the numbers wd. be around 145 rwhp and around 85 lbs of RWTorque how does that compare to the 1190 about 20 horse power more for the 1190 rwhp that is and about 20 lbs. more of rear wheel torque...

Does this sound about right??

Hogs, I rode the SX and RX last week. I have an 1125CR with a KEDA RT1 pipe, and a Race ECM. 145/85 sounds ballpark for what my bike does on a dyno.

My demo rides were unfortunately limited by traffic and a focus on twisties, so it was hard to get a feel for how much power it really makes, but it felt about on par for my 1125CR. I couldn't get it into the upper rev range to see how it feels wrung out though, which is where things like the showerhead injectors kick in.

YEah seems the 1190 makes more power on the upper end... Not alot of difference say on your bike and the 1190 except up higher as it seems the 1/4 mile times are almost spot on just a little quicker for the 1190s...

I have an 1125R with race ECM and aftermarket exhaust. I also have a stock 1190RX. I have ridden both on the track. I am no racer, but I can easily say the 1190RX is MUCH faster. It is not all at the upper end, either. It's at all RPM. It's a huge difference.

Having some 1125r's and having ridden the RX and the RS, I can say that the 1125 is not in the ballpark in any dimension, power, handling, comfort, braking. Nothing. You can tell they are related. That is where it stops though. RX has better power across the range than the RS, however, and the RS more above 7K (has the ECM and race pipe though.)

The 1125 is a great bike, though. It is just that the 1190, any of them are in a different class.

Though I have been criticized here as of late for relating my experiences I will say this. Having ridden an 1125r and the RX back to back.

The 1125r is a great street bike. It is not in the same class in handling, braking or power as the 1190. Best comparison I can come up with is jump from 650 to 1000 on power, and from a 1000 to a 250 on handling.

I have a both 1125r and 1190rx, the 1125 is strictly a track bike now, I have upgraded the suspension with GP Suspension 25mm cartridges, showa rear race, Ohlins damper, Accossato brake and clutch master cylinders, EBR EMC, and HMF exhaust, along with a quick shifter, the brakes with the sbs DS pads are spectacular, the handling is much lighter than stock and over all the bike is greatly improved. The 1190 does everything my 1125 will do, but faster, quicker, better, same DNA but so much more, I love my 1125 and will keep her doing track duty for hopefully many years to come, but I am in lust with my 1190, this thing is just an amazing machine.

I count 25 that I can identify, but know of a four more sold but don't know who they are. I think that some of the buyers must not be finding their way here or to the 1190 owner's group. Gotta be lots more out there though I would guess, but hard to find them.

Is there a way the badweb can market towards the EBR owners? Maybe add some EBR keywords into the search?
It would be great to see some EBR 1190RX EBR 1190SX 1190RS owners here on the site.

Someone asked about the RS owners. I know of 5, only two of which are on here. If I were to guess, since the dealers really are not sure what to do with them, that the RS is sort of out by itself. Other than my local group of Buell guys, the Ducati and BMW crowd are more interested and generally more supportive. I suspect that that is the market that EBR is looking for, but in dicsussions with three dealers so far, selling 1190's suffers some from just not many out there at bike nights, etc. As more are sold, more will be seen and the greater the chance of people knowing what it is and being comfortable with it.

I would hope that EBR would do something to pull the 1190 owners together. Any thing else is just ad hoc.

Limited dealers = limited sales numbers. If I were working in the marketing department at EBR, I would be pursuing all Ducati dealers to become an EBR dealer.

Well, make that 7 now because I went out and looked some more, not counting overseas (several more at least), the 10 warehoused, and as near as I can tell, one on the demo truck, another 30 at dealers. All told, probably about 50 accounted for. There are the race bikes, 10 as near as I can guess on top of that, so 60 of them out of 135. No idea on the others.

RS parts manuals are out there and I have one on a thumb drive and they are on at least one dealer's website. No service manuals per se so far though.

It seems like they have focused on production, perhaps to meet homologation quotas, and other stuff fell by the wayside. I have not interacted with them as yet much re: the RX. The dealer I took it to to fix the O2 sensor problem did the job and seemed happy with the support of the company and the video.

On the RS, have interacted with EBR directly, and they are definitely on the ball in that regard. It is a hard model to maintain though with hundreds of bikes vs. the small number above.

The easy solution to the community aspect is to email every EBR owner and direct them here or to the facebook page. THAT information exists at the factory. There a lot of us that would do that for them with non-disclosure agreements as appropriate. An email blast would be a good start.

I hope that those eyeing retirement retain "emeritus" status.

While the price of the RS is probably prohibitive for a lot of people, there are not that many of them and they could be bought up by enthusiasts much as the corresponding Ducati, etc. The RX CAN be affordable for lots of people given financing, and the cost of similar bikes, e.g the BMW (s1000rr and HP4), RC8, even the R1 and ZX-10r. The people disposed to buy those just have to decide that this is where they want to spend their money. Here where I am, well most of the time, the 1290 Superduke is considerably more than an SX.

Sorry about that . . I have to weigh some of the things I say very carefully. But your post certainly paints a concise picture of the challenge.

The one thing I'd caution about is Facebook. I'd never get near the place and, although I know many do, can't imagine they'd rely on that for owner communication.

One example of the current challenges. . . . I've been trying to make the current crop of demo events in the Northeast. There is one today in Flemington, NJ . . but I'll be damned if there is any information about time or location.

I'd like to buy, since I have every Buell service manual, parts manual, accessories catalogs and so forth since 1987, those parts and service manuals. To date, it's easier to find Lois Lerner's e-mails.

Again . . . to get any information . . you pretty much have to be an owner and conducted your own "squeaky wheel" effort . That's not the best way to bring folks storming' into the dealerships.

The EBR products are as cheap as any competing product and about $14,000 less than the BMW I went to look at yesterday . . so I'm not seeing price as the problem.

Hopefully . . . . now that production is up to speed this stuff, which should have preceded production, will come back to the front burner.

I'd be interested in why more folks here, among the fanatic faithful, are not purchasing.

Court, Facebook is great for convenience. Should it be used for owner communication? In some cases yes, it helps create value in the ownership community.

A great trend right now for manufacturers is live chat. Mostly used via twitter account, manufacturers can set up a time where they do a Q-and-A with owners that have tech questions, and gather positive and negative feedback. Its a great and inexpensive way to maintain a good CRM.

To carry this theme on outreach further, and email blast newsletter to the owners and other interested parties one time a week would be useful as well. It could contain EBR news, new owners, etc. I get one from House of Harley in Anchorage and Bumpus Harley in TN every month. And sure enough, when HOH has something going on that I am interested in, e.g. tire special, I head in. When Tom has a merchandise special or continues to liquidate Buell stuff, I call him.

A one page newsletter could be done for almost nothing using media from online sources, and with a shell that is filled in minutes each day.

Here is an example of topics:

1. New owners this week: Ken House (SX), Jase Bond (RX). These are real people, via facebook notifications.

2. EBR Demo days schedule: https://www.facebook.com/ErikBuellRacing/photos/pb .197762537495.-2207520000.1411053132./101523526094 82496/?type=1&theater

3. EBR's newest dealer:

EBR of Fresno
201 Van Ness Ave.
Fresno, CA 93721
Phone: (559) 441-7922
Website: www.chrisrivasvtwin.com

4. EBR Summer Savings event extended until Oct. 31. $2000 savings on 2014 1190 RX.

5. Aftermarket parts in development, available soon: ECM for 1190 RX, SX, Race Exhaust, New Clutch Master and Slave Cylinder for easier clutch pull.

6. Larry Pegram makes the podium on the EBR 1190RS at New Jersey in the final AMA stop for 2014.

Regular features: links to dealer page website.

This took me five minutes. Could easily be done by the mothership, sent to everyone in their address book.

>>>This took me five minutes.

And was discussed ad nauseum . . . . in order for EBR to penetrate the market it had to dispense with it's 2 "gifts" from Harley-Davdison. . . the dealers and the motor,

Check . . that's done.

The next thing that was necessary, not optional, was to create a brand and a reason to buy. This requires creating an circle of owners much like Phil, Don and I did when we started, and incorporated, the Buell Owners Club in 1989.

I'm going to be visiting with some more folks today . . . and am eager to see when the fire gets lit. It really looks like someone is late to the party and it's having a hell of an impact on sales. ((EDIT:L I should say that ON MY PERSONAL OPINION . . . IT APPEARS to be having an impact. No one can point to where the RS's are . . and no one, to date, can seem to figure out where more than about 2 days worth of production of the SX and RS's are)

The sportbike market, BMW and Ducati in their high end hypersports, is experiencing some of the greatest sales numbers in history . . folks are buying and the EBR offerings are among the cheapest, and I'd submit, BEST in the range . . . where are the sales? Where is the enthusiasm?

I have some theories . . . but am eager to hear your folks' thoughts.

If I wasn't a student and able to purchase a new motorcycle, I would have over this summer. As a brand loyal consumer to Buell, I would have considered an EBR. I would have done my research and weighed the pros and cons of each bike I decided fit my needs and wants. EBR may not have made the cut. I have no interest in driving 2.5hrs to a dealer to touch it/feel it and have service work done. I did it before and I won't do it again. EBR NEEDS more dealers. For me, the most I'm willing to drive is 40 minutes to a dealer that sells and services my brand.

O.k. Court, I'll take a shot at this one.

Take your demos to some hot spots and / or gatherings like the Buell meet in Little Switzerland and record the individual before he/ she gets on the bike, stating their name height, weight and possibly their age. Have a Go-Pro attached to the back of the lead rider facing the individual test riding the bike. When the ride is over let them give their feedback concerning the bike and be sure to have the rider mention the dealership.

For goodness sake, this is FREE ADVERTISING!! I get on YouTube and watch these videos posted by individuals all the time but when it comes to the EBR brand there's hardly anything.

When I got off the 1190SX after my demo ride and someone would have recorded my reaction after riding it, I dare say some individual, having seen the video, might have considered purchasing this bike for themselves.

I suggested this to Randy @ RPM and he loved the idea.

Personally, I got tired of waiting to the release and bought an S1000rr for 17,500 out the door. Heated grips, traction control, abs...etc. When the RX did come out I tried to trade in the Bimmer. I was offered 10,000. Lol. Apparently they werent too interested in making a sale. So, I kept it and am pretty glad I did now. It's quite a machine. Can't compare because I haven't been on an RX. The SX is just too fugly so I'm not interested in that. I am interested in the AX depending on how it turns out, price, and I the dealers can get their heads out of their arses when it comes to a trade in, otherwise BMW is coming out with a new adventure bike with the S1000 engine in it and I will certain be looking at it too.

One thing that concerns me is Mr. Buell isn't getting any younger.
What happens to the brand when the driving force behind it retires.... or worse.

I know he has a 200 year plan. Is anyone else towing that line?

When you talk to Erik, its like a going to a church revival! You come away ready to ride the world on the rear wheel!!!
Will that enthusiasm continue on?

ooooohh, that would give them something to think about...i like it.

Get the bike out there and get as many asses on it as possible!

Call it the "EBR Challenge" and have dealerships compete over how many people they can demo a bike within a given amount of time, then EBR gives them some kind of incentive, maybe an extra demo bike.

Everywhere the "elves diaspora" have gone, good things followed. There is more than a cult of personality, there is also a set of shared and articulated values.

So while a change in leadership would be huge, I wouldn't bet on it stopping good things from happening. It will need a good leader for sure, and good leaders are really hard to find, but there is more than one of them on the planet.

Especially if it was a "soft retirement", where vision was still cast and input was still sought.

(Not that I'm rooting for any of that to happen soon of course...)
