Last night I had hot hands. This morning I only have one hot hand. Seems like the left grip is flaming, and the right grip, well, isn't. Common issue, or wires through the headstock gremlin? Or do they just fail after a while? | ||

Mine fatigued right on the twistgrip where they flex all the time. I was able to hack mine with an exacto and solder them back together. I rerouted mine in a way that looks very dorky but will not bend like that. I can post some pics when I get home. My quick emergency fix has now outlasted the original setup  | ||

The throttle grip doesn't seem to last as long as the clutch side, likely a break in the wire that flexes as you twist the throttle. I've not seen anyone attempt a repair, but it is $70 for a new throttle grip. What you can do as process of elimination, remove the flyscreen and find the two plugs for the heated grips, and swap them to see if the left grip still gets hot. Also, check both high and low settings, it is possible for only one to not work. | ||

That's exactly why I went with the polly cartridge heaters (inside the bars). The wires never move. The heat takes a while longer to get to you though. | ||

I happen to be mounting up a new throttle side heated grip on an '08 customer Uly. The new one has an orange marker on the wire about five inches away from it's intersection with the grip itself. There is no instruction with it, but I am presuming the marker is to indicate the minimum distance to place the first zip tie. I'm going to be wary of it, making that marker a bare minimum mark to tie it. I will add as much safe hanging distance as possible to avoid kinking the wires during throttle activation. | ||

Eten.... That dot is supposed to indicate the apex of the curve made by the wire when zip tied to allow for full range of throttle movement, not the first zip tie. | ||

Sorry again for the delay. Twins man. Twins. Anyways, Here are three shots I just took. I removed the grip from the bike and carefully cut away the rubber til I found some good wires. I soldered and shrink tubed it. Then to make sure the brittle solder wouldn't bend anymore, I poked a hole in the grip and ziptied it in place. I then routed the wire in a way that it wouldn't flex harshly like it originally did.    It's been like this now for longer than the original arrangement. Bike just crossed the big 50K line. |
