I bought a powder coater, and one of the things i'd like to powder coat is my primary cover... but its chromed. i hate chrome its flashy and not my style. So i was thinking about powder coating over it. The chome is in good shape and should give a nice smooth gloss look of black when its been powdered over (in black) thoughts? the engine cover is going to be done as well, however that side is polished aluminum. so im planning on just cleaning that and powdering over it as well. |

I did a magazine feature bike with transparent blue powder coat over bad chrome on an old Springer Rear fork and steel primary cover - looked great, is still intact and looking good years later. With good chrome it should be great for you |

I've got a gray texture finish primary cover in my garage - stock from my 2000 Cyclone M2 - that you could just pc, (maybe sand smooth first if that's the finish you're looking for) just so you don't have to destroy a stock chromed cover. This thing has just been taking up space for years. |

Ricky, PM your address to me and I'll get it in the mail in the next couple days. Use the box it comes in to ship the chrome cover back to me. I'll keep my eyes open for a cam chest cover for you. |

Take it to a plating shop. They can remove the chrome the same way it went on. I've done it on a couple of pieces, the finish is PERFECT when you get them back. Ready for polish or power coating. I had one billet piece the that still had the tooling marks on it when the chrome was removed. So fine they didn't show through the plating. |

ive bead blasted and powdercoated over lots of chrome. You want the bead blasted finish to give the powder something to bit to. I just finished powdercoating my primary and cam cover.

When I rebuilt my X1 I replaced all I could with stainless steel . The rest I had nickel plated to match the polished bits and pieces that I also had nickel plated . But I replaced everything on my bike so I might not be the Norm. But the results were worth the effort I.M.O. |

You're welcome. I'm glad it went to a good home. My wife bought me chromed hardware for my primary and cam chest covers, I asked for that instead of stainless to avoid the corrosion issues due to the difference in metals. |

Mine were not rusted.. just dirty. I ran them through my tumbler with wood cubes and simple green. Look like new |
