Got up to my N GA house, by way of Bike Week. Though it went down into the 20's on Tuesday night, Wed warmed up nicely. We headed towards Deal's Gap, me on my BMW K1200RS, my friend "Trip" on my '03 Firebolt XB9R. We almost made it unscathed. Trip's been away from bikes for a while, and one particular turn on 28 about 4 miles south of the Gap got him. Ran just a little wide and dumped it in the leaves. The bike has some new "character". The only real damage seems to be a broken left footpeg, some minor gouges in the plastic and a triple-crown about 3º off from the front wheel. And a bar-end mirror. A pair of Vise-Grips served as a temporary peg replacement. Trip knew he had hurt his right hand, but wanted to run the Dragon anyway and we did so (conservatively). Thursday his hand was really swollen. We flew home (to S FL) and he called me today with the bad news: 3 bones in his hand broken in 2 places each. Ouch! He's in a cast for at least 6 weeks. Other than that (Mrs. Lincoln) we had a great time. The K1200RS is still amazing. Set up with it's bags and taller shield and bar-backs it's great for covering lots and lots of highway miles. I have a spare set of wheels with Pilot Sports and with the stock shield and bars forward bike feels fantastic - or at least as sporty as a 600+ bike can be. After a few days on the Beemer, the 'bolt felt toylike - but nimble and FUN! Anyway, I hope to spend a lot of time in the N GA/TN/NC mountains this spring and summer - hope to hook up with some of you guys then. |

I guess the leaves softened the blow:

What a man! I'll have to add the broken footpeg - or maybe turn it into a necklace (I wouldn't be the first- right Bryan?) edited by fasteddieb on March 12, 2004 |

She rides perfectly straight. I have a feeling (and Daves agrees) that just loosening the pinch bolts and forcing it straight again should work - I'll try it next time I'm up in N GA. |

LOL...we'll have a matched pair - mine was the left foot peg! At least he and the bike are both (relatively) all right, though. Bryan |
