This overhaul just got a lot more expensive.... But I think I might have found the culprit for backfiring thru the intake... Valve stem protrusion per manual is not supposed to exceed 2.031" Intake valve: 2.050" Exhaust valve: 2.056" I guess it's time for new valve seats or new heads... | ||

WTF.... Just found in the table the service wear limit is 2.082" and for new components is 2.028"-2.064" ???????? Any thoughts my fellow badwebbers, would be GREATLY appreciated....  | ||

I've noticed that in Harley manuals also. On a used motor the wear limit is what you use. Sounds like your ok. Remember, you have hydraulic tappets so unless you collapse them all the way down they can take quite a lot of height changes. | ||

Were youre valves worn thin out at the seat diameter? Sometimes theres no material left to resurface the valve. between that and seat wear youre valve will recess into head giving you a longer dimension that you no longer can live with. Look at it after the resurfacing as well cuz final dimensions is what you go by. Dunc just threw my valves away at 48000 cuz they were so thin. New valves, freshly cut seats and i was back in business. | ||

Plenty of meat on the valves still at 51,616... The seats look a bit worse for wear, even after lapping them, and those measurements were the last thing done. Having a hard time finding anybody around these parts to either cut or replace the seats... | ||

Youd think in your area, there would be several machine shops that would do that work. May have to check into austin area if needed. Would you do a favor and get cylinder spigot diameters and bolt circle of tie down studs? I would like to create a set of torque plates and i havent pulled the buell cylinders off to measure.Have only had road king cylinders off and i never measured those for whatever reason. | ||

Just the od of the cylinder spigot and a measurement of the bolt circle is fine . I would think that a 3/4 thick plate would be thick enough. Any other thoughts would be appreciated. | ||

Spigot OD is 0.5625" Head bolt hole ID is 0.6125" on avg. By 4.625" dia. Circle locations 90 degree offsets.... Gonna take a bit more work for true spigot location measurements | ||

Soooooo mad at myself....  While carefully cleaning the top of the case to install the rear cylinder I sneezed.... Blew a bunch of crap INTO the case all over the crank.... FML | ||

Blew a bunch of crap INTO the case all over the crank.... FML You could get a length of small diameter hose (~1/4") and tape it onto your shop vac, then get all the stuff out you can. If you want to go further, you could dump light oil or kerosene in, swish it around, and drain through the plug at the bottom of the cases. | ||

Gp81, was there more to that spigot diameter? and tape rule what the od of our plates should be. Sounds good on beer and ride but being ocd, i think more of ride then have beers. | ||

The last uly I had backfiring through the intake was from a botched tps reset. |
