Made it to swampy area formerly known as the tundra and unloaded bike. I filled the gas tank before loading it on trailer for last leg of trek. Rode it thru town and fuel light has been on intermittantly as well as the countdown display. The fuel is at a full level in the tank...did not all leak out on the highway. Any easy peasy fixes for this one, oh sage peeps of badweb? Thanks in advance. B. | ||

I would suggest wiggling the fuel tank harness and see if the light goes out. (rubbed wire) Other than that, it would be a big show to get that sensor out. Easiest fix: black tape over the light and keep track of your miles. | ||

Thanks, nate, for the electrical tape over light idea. I will be using this bike for demoes this weekend and don't want the light to be a distraction. Methinks I will be waiting till I am back in colo before a permanent fix happens. Meanwhile I believe the trip odometer is still fine for tracking miles between fuel fill ups. | ||

It'll probably be the wire splicers in the wire bundle at the flex point between the fuel tank and the forks. Otherwise check the steering neck ground wires behind the headlights. (check to see if the headlights are working). | ||

Vern The headlights are definitely working, thank goodness. I think I have a burnt out bulb on my trailer lights, oh yay. Btw the mosquitoes up here are horrendous this summer. Fo sho the state bird. Should buy stock in repellent. | ||

I've had to replace the fuel sensor on my 04 Tiger once, probably due to ethanol. That was an easy job but it was $100 part. | ||

Has the fuel pump ever been removed to check for abraded wires? There is a good post on it if you do a search. I pulled mine out at 17k and found abrasions. I never had problems, but would have if I didn`t catch it. Of course, check out all the easier stuff first. | ||

If the sensor is gone due to ethanol (hard to prove), that would suck. And vern, the mozzies were rarely as bad in fl as in mn. Probably because they sprayed for them in fl to cut down on west nile disease. The northern part of mn is notoriously bad, probably because of all the standing water. We bought nets for our heads a few years back because the in_laws were living in a swamp and doing anything outside was unbearable. Never removed the fuel pump, but that task may go on the honey do list. Maybe one of the mods can remove my duplicate post. Stupid smart phone! |
