"I'd not ride with the lights uncovered . . . penal ties . . for impersonating an officer. . are significant"

Yup, Doubt I would ride it but I could run the lights and siren in the back yard on the 4th of July and New Years Eve. Can's sleep with all the fireworks going and those aren't legal either.

Weird how I also started a thread on hearing protection...

yes very loud, orginally had the wear ear protection sticker on it. Used twice to save my wifes life. Both times was following wife on her bmw, both times drivers start to pull in front of her, both times after horn activation the offending vehicles stop dead. wife saved
sounds like a train coming. I knew nothing about Buell when I purchased. I bought the bike just for its looks and the cop kit. I had no idea. After 30000 miles I'm still learning what a great bike this is. Torque rules. I hope I can keep it long time.

Good example.

Be mindful that fitting a fire engine siren to a Buell, now that all sirens are electric .... Is a no brainer.

My horn is quite illegal.

I also have the Whelan TIR3's (same one's we used on the XP) on my hand guards and the rear luggage.

I've taken see and be seen to nuisance level.

Hey . . . it's New York City.

Yes...the TIR3 is a very nice lighthead.

I've also had good results with the plain ol' stock 1125CR mirrors on my Ulysses.

My rears...well...if you disassemble a TIR3, you will discover that there - depending on size and configuration of that particular TIR3 - are a number of "cards" and each card has its own wide-dispersal lens, and three LED's.

Each card....fits perfectly inside a stock Ulysses turn signal housing. They make VERY nice (stock appearing) rear signals : )

Man, you guys are handing out some great info! I wondered if the extra set on the rear luggage could be used as additional brake lights, and if the blue and red on the front, or the ones on the hand guards could be set up for riding lights. I'm going to need to go back and take notes - keep it coming. Thanks again everyone. (Sounds like I probably shouldn't hook up the horn on a permanent basis, unless I want to make everyone deaf...?)

Jsdugan.

Check this for some additional info. Courtesy of Timbobuell. I've been considering this for some time.

I went a different route on horns originally but could still mount the siren and use the Hella Supertones on something else. These are not siren loud but they do make a good BEEP.

I have the XP trunk with the red tr3 lights hooked up as brake lights also one on the reflector bracket under the liscense plate so when I have the box off I still have an extra brake light and all are powered by a brake light modulator so it is very noticeable when I hit the brakes. For the front I run HID head light bulbs with a relay to turn the low beam on with the high and run high beams during the day to make sure I'm seen. And for the a## holes who still don't see me I have a nautelous air horn under the fly screen to get their attention away from their cell phones.

Shagg,
Can you share what modulator you used for your setup? I'd like to add something similar to my Uly.

Also . . more on the HID headlight bulbs . . . I had my Uly out last night and I'd be better off holding a flashlight.

Court - I use a DDMtuning HID in my low beam. 4500k, 35w. Love it. Have one in my CR as well. I'll post pics of the install tonight when I get home...all fits behind the flyscreen, WITH the stebel!!

I've got the DDM 35W in the low beam as well, been quite happy with it, other than it's starting to discolor the reflector a bit. Packaging wasn't really bad at all for me either.

Ditto on the DDM 35W, they work great for me. I hope for an LED alternative soon just to make installation simpler, but I don't think there is a good LED solution out yet, and certianly not one at $35 or whatever DDM charges this day.

The modulator and HID's are not going to work together. LED's and a modulator would though.

My heated grip controller would probably work fine as a modulator with only software changes.

I was definitely thinking a TIR3 on the license plate reflector with some sort of modulator. I've seen other solutions for sale but the whelens look to be proven and are great quality. An option to build modulation into the ever growing super grip heater volt meter warp speed controller would be awesome. Some days I wish I were an electrical guy but then I wouldn't get to work on tractors...

Here's my flyscreen area - relay for aux lights, Stebel horn, and DDMTuning HID setup:

And...all four on. 4500k HID low beam, 2-light high beam mod, and aux lights that toggle with the highbeam:

I think I need to bring my Uly when I come look at the rental unit and have you package the inside of my flyscreen.

Looks like your lights work much better than mine.

A good use of the Whelen LINZ6 lights.

Take 2 LINZ6 + Back Off module = traffic stopping flashing brake lights.

I got the Whelen license plate frame cut it on the shear at work and remounted the vertical brackets on the cross piece. Fitted it behind the license plate, crimped on a few Deutsch connectors and buttoned it back up.

If you want TIR3's (mine are yellow) on the handguards but don't want to spring for the whole package:

You don't need to find the unobtanium bezels that were part of the policia package.

A TIR3 light has a TON of epoxy-ish material built in to the back of the module as well as enough of a sacrificial flange that it can be modified without damaging the light, just save the gasket that comes with the light head.

A contour gauge, some masking tape and a Dremel is all you'll need to slowly work the contour of the hand guard in to the side profile of the lights. You'll also need to replace the Whelen sheet metal screws with SS screws and washers and nylock nuts (my pref...YMMV).

All it takes is zip-ties and patience...I'm happy to do it!

I also mounted a TIR3 where my tag light used to be (swapped to LED tag bolts), and have a federal signal something-or-other LED wig-wag box hooked to my brakelights. The TIR3 is steady-on with the brakes because...well, frankly, I didn't want to give anyone a seizure. My stock brakelight and an LED strip I added in my topcase lens are the two channels of the wig-wag...but I have it set for something like 20fps (flashes per second) so they don't so much flash...as...well...vibrate, almost. And there's really no "this one - that one - this one - that one" flashing...they both just sorta strobe. I love it.

I have the same box running these LED strips in my S2 brakelight (TIR3 internals):

(yes...the main element is a Ulysses LED board... : ) )

And these are set for 4fps - PLENTY of back-and-forth here!

I used the same DDM tuning 35w kits on both high and low beams. The brake light modulator is by BACK OFF. It is hooked up under my seat and have all brake lights hooked up to it. The two on my trunk bag have a harness coming from under my seat with a connector so if I ride with the trunk off i can unplug the brake lights and tuck the harness in under my seat.
