Hello, I quickly searched this topic and did not find anything. I would like to change the grips on my 08 Uly. I find the OEM to be slippery and I just plain don't like the feel. I took a quick look and noted the cord to power the heating element is directly molded to the grip. Can they be changed? Is there a procedure? Sorry if this was covered before. Thanks |

I can not answer your question but you can install polygrip heated grips for about $30 and they work really well. |

Changing the grips is easy, but the heating element is built into the grip, so if you do want to go aftermarket you will also need to get an aftermarket heat solution if you want to retain that feature. That said, some slide on grip covers like Grip Puppies may be the easiest and most economical solution. |

I think someone here has installed the Polygrip (or similar) bar heaters mentioned above while retaining the stock wiring and controls. That allows you to run whatever grip you want. |

You mean the polly heater cartridges? Yup, those will work fine with the factory switch and most of the wiring. Obviously you will need to tap into it somewhere. There are two kinds of the Polly cartridge heaters. The first is for snowmobiles, and has just one setting (deep fry), and is on or off. Those are like $29 or something. The next is a two setting varient they say are for motorcycles. It has two settings, kind of too low, and deep fry. The controller I am building uses the simpler and cheaper snowmobile version, and is a full closed loop thermostat controller. It is on it's way to a badwebber in Michigan now who also happens to be a controls systems developer for some "second opinion" tuning. |

The Poly Heaters I bought were $26.00 on Amazon with free shipping they were the dual temp model they range from hot to very hot but really work perfectly and too very little to install. because I did not want to drill new holes in the bike I was able to slightly open the existing holes in the handle bars and also just forward of the ignition switch to install the multi position switch,(I realize some would not want to lean forward to switch on an off but it does not bother me and saved my bike from extra holes) took about an hour to install. |

Same reason I bought them, nice low invasive install, incredibly durable. |

Froggy did you get the small or large grip puppies to fit user stock ULY heated grips? |

Grab On grip covers on amazon. Cheap and effective with a non slip surface (foam). I was suffering from hand fatigue because the stock grips are a little small for my hands. Big improvement. |
