So, I tore into the Defender tonight. Figured I bought it nearly 2 years ago...time to put a wrench on it! For those who don't know...in 1998, Buell built 12 S3T Defender bikes for the Harley 95th. They were used as escort bikes for the event, and as showcases for what Buell could do for LEO bikes. They also built some M2 Peacekeepers and some S1W Enforcers for the same reason. My bike:
Tonight's "discoveries": Fairing stay is hosed. Need a new one. Tail section seriously cracked (bodywork) under seat and around taillight. Ice white pearl, "S3 Thunderbolt" decal, NOT "S3 Touring". Right fairing lower broken, missing pieces. Attaches to airbox. Also ice white pearl. Header is rashed. Down low, I can probably work with it, but...it's ugly and now I know it's there. '98-only header, either S3 or S1W - S-bend, 2.5" header. Dash is trashed and speedo is broken...but I think I have some on a shelf. Have to look. ...and that's just tonight's discoveries. Tomorrow...I pull the front head/jug (too many wheelies before I got it, broken front head bosses). Hopefully THAT doesn't snowball!! But...the bike is worth it. The more information I get on these Defenders in general and on mine specifically...the more I want it on the road. If anyone has parts they want to see go to a good home, for a good project...drop me a note! |

I have a couple of tail sections if you need. I think one is black and the other is gray. There in good shape. |

Actually got time to dig thru the pile-o-parts in the garage and I found a dash. Thanks though! Tail section...I'd really like to find an ice white pearl, not so much for the color...but for the correct S3 decal. I can get anything painted...but doubt I'd ever find the correct decal! |

I was thinking S2 . . . . not S3. I have (or had . . depending on what got tossed) a shoe box full of old stickers. |

Well Brankin and I are having a debate over the feasibility of using quicksilver S2T fairing "BUELL" decals on an S3 Defender...*I* think they're different colors, and sizes...he seems to think they may work. The Defender looks like blue to me, where the S2T looks more periwinkle. Thoughts? |

...and the tail section decal in question is a gold and silver "S3 Thunderbolt" decal...
The others I'm going to have to source, come paint-time, will be a pair of these for the saddlebags:

You can make water transfer decals with a good inkjet printer. Just a thought.... I have an 98 Ice White Pearl tail section with that exact decal on it - on Veronica. I bet the paint on it is worse than what you have though.... She needs a repaint badly. I put a bigazz "Works Performance " sticker over the worst spot, and an old BSA "Thunderbolt" over the other sin. In fact - Veronica has the same fairing nose decal as well - the smaller "Buell" typeface, more blocky and not italicized. Also trashed... |
