Hello: I have a bizarre problem. Got bike out of winter storage and check it out (xb12ss - 2006). All was well. Drove it to work and all was well. Drove it home and all was well until 3 miles from the house when I lost the low beam light, the instrument panel (no gage lights, no tach, no speedometer, no neutral light, no turn signal), no brake lights, no turn lights. BUT the high beam works and the high beam indicator works. I replaced the voltage regulator about 1000 miles ago and thought that had solved the blown light issue (http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/384 2/721914.html?1380924209). I literally have no idea what this one is. Any suggestions would be welcome. thanks } |

Having similar issue with my 05 xb9 city. I have traced the issue to the key switch. I can get everything to work if i turn the key slowly on, then at some point (worn contacts in ignition switch maybe) it no longer connects electrically. Not sure the fix yet as I haven't the time. |

Check this thread out about ignition switch. This from a Uly but is the same as Lighting. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/466128.html?1245416650 |

thanks all. the saga is getting stranger. so I check grounds / leads and all seems well. I check continuity on turn signals, head lights, etc. and all is well so no blown bulbs. I checked for rubbed wires (bike has 25,000 miles) and all was well (I have prior patches from abrasion). I check fuses and all is well. I checked relays and all worked (or at least a new one showed no improvement). bike starts and runs fine. high beam works but not low beam (or turn signals / brake light). unplugging and checking the ign. switch indicates that it is ok (have not removed it yet). I do have power going to the ign switch. Here is the confusion. if it was the ign switch, then why does the high beam work and the high beam idiot light work and nothing else? I would think that a switch would either make contact or not and I would have no head lights or both head lights. I tested the switch (1 and 2, 3 and 4) 0.5 ohms for 1 to 2 and 0.6 ohms for 3 to 4. 1 and 3 (at least the way I count them) are powered as well on the bike side of the connector. I believe this is totally irrelevant, but I did fuel up 5 minutes before this started. Any suggestions most welcome. I am stumped. thanks |

That should be correct if the bike is completely stock, but if your bike was modified to keep the low beam on when the high beam is switched on, now the low and high are likely no longer on the same circuit. While it can be the ignition switch, usually issues with lights like you describe is the ground point that is under the fly screen. Maybe a broken wire, or the grounding poin t needs to be cleaned/reseated. |

thank you. no - still running as one eyed jack. but I guess I need to re-trace grounds again. maybe a wire broke internally. but it is still really strange that the only instrument cluster component that works is the high beam indicator light - and that only when I switch to the high beam. engine, neutral, gauges, etc. do not work. |

For the logs. Power lead from ign to 15 amp fuse (switch) damaged. Thus no power to the instruments . BUT the fuses did not break completely so a continuity test worked but current was limited. Very strange. Low beam light was second issue (that happened at the same time?). Light connector wiring harness had poor connection. Replaced with aftermarket wiring connector. Running now, but yet more very strange electrical behavior from this bike. I have had a MAJOR electrical failure on this bike every year I have owned it. Mechanically sound, very poor electronic wiring. |

my o6 uly had similar failures. Talk to Eric Buell back then and mention that I had found over crimped terminal pins in the wire connections .Trouble shooted and solve alot of those problems through wire harness wiggle test and inspected all or most connections. |
