I looked at the RX at Battley Cycle yesterday and finally understood what NO Hub really meant. This is a bad cell pic, but maybe useful. There seem to be bolts that keep the sides from spreading apart, but even the spokes are staggered from side to side.

A hub would add nothing but weight given the design of the wheel. |

This is one of the coolest rear wheels ever invented, IMHO. It has a couple of disadvantages for racing -- sprocket changes aren't that easy, for example -- but there's still no denying it's just a really great design. |

I would like to see a better picture of that ... looks like a cool design. |

Yes. And, there's no cush drive in it, which is kinda nice to have. |

Cush drive is in the final drive output sprocket, no? |

Yep, and on most other sportbikes it is in between the sprocket and the wheel. |

Jdugger- I notice that neither the AMA Superbike teams nor the WSBK teams run this wheel. Do you think that's why? I haven't seen the WSb in person but I have seen the AMA bikes and it appears to be the same wheels to me. The photos of the Wsb wheels APPEAR to be the same as stock front and different rear, but I could be wrong. |

Classax- I know that last year the AMA Superbikes were not running the EBR rear wheels; this pic shows the wheels they were running. It's an aftermarket wheel; jdugger may know what brand they are: Here's a photo from Team Hero/EBR's Facebook page showing the same rear wheel on the WSBK. It's not real clear in this photo, but if you look closely you can see it:
Here's a closeup of the wheels I took at NOLA Motorsports Park last year (rear wheels on the bottom of the rack at the right):

Well shoot! Those hubs won't hold water! Right from the pages of 'why not take some of that stuff out?' I like it. |

I think the race wheels are PVM. |

"Right from the pages of 'why not take some of that stuff out?'" If I recall correctly, they we doing FEA on the wheel, and EBR asked the wheel maker why the hub didn't light up. Answer, there's no load there, it just makes them easier to cast. |

They ran PVM wheels in part because the bike had so much torque, that they were spinning the wheel inside the tire and throwing it out of balance. The PVM wheel had a special texturing on the bead area to prevent it. It happened to my bike with Higbee riding at Infineon AMA race. Its not an issue on the street. It's never happened to me on the track, but then I'm not Shawn. |

And people wonder why someone would buy an 1190RX/S over a Panigale or an S1KRR |

Wheelspin isn't all that uncommon of an issue. I know the tire guys around here use this mount lubricant that's super-slick wet and like glue once it dries. It's hell getting a tire off using a manual machine if a tire guy did the mount, that's for sure! |

And people wonder why someone would buy an 1190RX/S over a Panigale or an S1KRR You mean there are other reasons besides not subjecting the fellas to thermal sterilization every ride?!?! |
