I am doing a lot more longer distance night driving and want a little more light out front. I'm leaning towards less as the old girl is a little hard on batteries already and I don't want to go causing trouble. They are just shy of prohibitive expensive but the clearwater Darla's at 2k lumens each look to be a good fit. Does anyone have any experience with them or can you advise me on other systems? Thanks T3 |

I just fitted a pair of ADVMonster model 30's with the remote dimmer and high beam cut out.....You can dim them for low beams but when you hit the highs...its like lighting a football field in daylight in front of you...I HIGHLY recommend them If you put " inmate" in the code box you get 10%off...and they're having a sale at the moment http://stores.advmonster.com/ |

I preferred to run both headlights on for hi beam and use my extra voltage for marker lighting front and rear with LED marker lights. I am more concerned about them seeing me after dark on the Interstate than seeing beyond my driving range or flash blinding granny coming the other way. I seldom see times where I can run hi beams for more than a couple of minutes before traffic shows up, even on the Interstate. |

I am not wanting to thread jack this but is it ok to run with both headlights on at the same time? |

Well I run twisty 2 lane road over the Appalachian trail daily. 52 miles each way and deer and critters everywhere. I drive in at 1:30 pm and head home at 11pm. At that time of night I have the dual headlight mod and have all my additional lights set for 2 settings, low and high based on low/high beam. I do not run the aux lights during the day but I do have the brightlight 110lumen LEDS on the front that flicker to draw attention and 110 Lumen dual range lights on the ass end for brake/running. If I think about it I'll try to do a quick video of the different modes. I agree all the extra lights on the freeway is less functional then well placed lower power leds for visibility but off road/back country I need to see the deer on the sides as far out as I can. I have already had 2 strikes in the last few years on my cages, do not want that to happen on the bikes. |

I use these: http://www.plashlights.com/plashlights-16w-led-dri ving-light-pair--wiring-harness-detail.htm?product id=-84655 Don't let the some-what cheesy website fool you ... they are very bright and high quality. I mounted them where the stock front blinkers went and needed no additional hardware than what came with it the $110 kit (I am using the CR mirrors which have integrated front blinkers already). Have had them on for 1-1/2 years and no problems with the exception of the switch that came with the harness went bad, when the switch went bad, I ended up just wiring them to run with the low-beams. |

Saw my first harley with LED headlight bolt on retrofit. Ugh. Worse than the idiots that put high power hid capsules in non projector enclosures. One very small very bright point of light (as opposed to a larger surface putting out the same amount of light). Pretty soon it will rank up there with straight pipes on "motorcyclists making everyone everywhere hate them". Hopefully this setup gets that light diffused a bit, and hopefully somebody comes out with a good retrofit proper projector assembly with a nice clean cutoff that keeps the light below the eyes of the person in front of you. |

+1 on the ADVmonster 30 LED's Dimmer is a must, very bright even in daylight. Owner is great to deal with if you have any questions. The install was easy, the aluminum bar was fabricated in our shop and bolted in place using the factory threaded holes, see photos. The dimmer is held in place with Velcro ( left bar riser).
