For some reason I can't get te search function to work on my phone so I'll just ask it: Does anyone have any experience with this oil filter? Good? Bad? http://americansportbike.com/newdir/Item/9234 I probably should have asked before ordering one but I like the idea of not having to try and locate an oil filter every change and just wash this one out every time. |

I've been using it for around 12k miles. No problems here. |

Bubba beat me to it. I was going to link that thred. Unfortunately in that situation the filter failed...the proper procedure then would be engine teardown/inspection/rebuild. Personally I like high quality disposables. I use the Rotax filters for the 1125 and harley/k&n/wix filters on the Harleys. Wix or Mobil 1 in the race car. |

I too, followed the thread above. The question is, would the same filter failure happen if a normal filter was used in the above situation? My take away from the above situation was that the rotor oil jet mod was much too large and starved the front head. I think that the same thing would have happened with either filter. |

Phlegm: good point. There were other factors contributing to a poor oiling condition. This clogged the filter, causing it to crush inward. The same scenario is plausible with a replaceable filter as well. |

i'm not sure any conclusions were confirmed. i'm doubtful that that 1/8" rotor jet would contribute significantly.. that compressed filter indicated something - but what, i aint sure. typically, i just listen to more knowledgeable guys (than me) anyways

thanks Oldog.. yup, I've tried to follow Dhays issue. i've even toyed with the idea of DIYing my rotor (OEM rotor + stator that tests good by my estimation) i'm sure i'll end up getting the EBR upgrade tho. i'll keep babying my 1125 until then i guess but back the OP - the filter... i bought some cheapies off ebay that had washers and O-ring included. guess ima tightwad |

" the filter... i bought some cheapies off ebay that had washers and O-ring included. : ) guess ima tightwad" As am I. My thinking: OEM Filter $21.32 Brand X Filter $9.95 Lets say I go with brand X (which I usually DON'T, I always buy OE over knock-off where I can) at an average of 2 oil changes per years, I would break even in 4 years. And that doesn't take S&H into the equation. So as long as my motor doesn't implode from the filter and I keep my bike longer than 4 years, which I can not see me getting rid of it any time soon, I will be in the black as far as money saved on oil filters go. |

i got ya.. and that makes sense. here i am pinchin' pennies for a filter and will probably spend 12-14$/ quart for some "top of the line" synthetic oil lol (Message edited by bubba_ on April 25, 2014) |
