My 2002 cyclone will randomly start to what sounds like choking out or sputtering while riding, it mostly happens while riding on the freeway, but has happened at other times too. When it starts to sputter and start killing I start pulling in clutch and then it will keep running without sputtering, but then when I start to let clutch out and give it gas it begins killing again. Please help as I don't know what the cause is of this. I just hit 40,000 miles on it too. |

The M2 has a side stand safety switch, right? Sounds like that's failing. It can be replaced, or if you want to live dangerously, bypassed. |

You got it Reep. Bypass it first just to confirm that it is the problem then just replace it. To bypass/jumper it just unplug the 2 wires to the switch and jumper the 2 wires in the harness together but not the switch of course. Please let us know how it turns out, we like to have feedback. My 2002 cyclone had a similar problem. It would sputter and had died on me at highway speeds. Usually around 3,000RPM. I thought it was a fuel vapor vacuum lock for awhile. I cleaned and re-jetted the carb, changed the intake seals, and adjusted the air/fuel screw under the plug, and new fuel and vent lines. Runs real good now, and I have had none of the previous symptoms. Hope this helps. In my case, the sputtering and near death was a fuel starvation issue. Yours could be too. Maybe a clogged "something" |

I think that a faulty side stand switch will also cause backfiring (in my case real loud ones) as the unburnt fuel ignites, so if not backfiring then chances are the problem may be somewhere else...but still verifying that it is not the safety switch would be a good thing Good luck with solving the issue Ishai |
