Been a looooooooooooooooooooooong, cold winter. But I am hoping it is soon ending. Still on the hunt for the right set of shoes and decided on the OEM D616. Now I cant find a rear anywhere. Does anyone know if these are discontinued? Anyone selling them new still? thanks |

Was just looking at tires on BikeBandit, and they have the front on closeout, with no rears available. I think they may be done for. Saw an earlier post on here mentioning discontinuation. |

I see two possible outcomes for him, either he switches to the superior Pirelli Scorpion Trail, or he stops riding |

Dammit, they were my favorite tread pattern.. just wish they had been constructed with a dual compound like pilot road 2's. Dunlop, are you listening?.. I personally have no interest in any other of your tires |

Is that the superior Scorpion Trail that has a thinner carcass, and less void area to actually grab onto dirt and gravel? That Scorpion Trail? I'll never run a Pirelli on my bike. Too many bad experiences, and too many crappy tires. The hunt begins... |

No that's the scorpion trail that has a duel compound rear that seems to be wearing evenly with the front, sticks like glue in the twisties and is smooth up to 120+mph when all other tires I have had had a head shake above 100 including the so D616 and shinko 009 ravens. As far as thinner carcas, I mount and balance all my tires and didn't notice it being thinner. As far as dirt worthy I don't know as I'm on road 99% of the time, but when I was on a group ride we parked in a grass area that went up hill most had trouble going up and had to torn around, I pulled up the hill with ease. I can hang with any sport bike in the turns right on his ads and if it wasn't on the street could probably pass them, they are very confidence inspiring tires. |

Please correct me if I'm wrong but aren't Pirelli made in another country? If so, please keep them there because I won't ever put a foreign tire on my American Made Buell Motorcycle! |

I'm under the impression that ALL motorcycle tires are made outside of the U.S., unless Michelin is making some at their plant in SC. |

Guess you did not see the CHINA stamp on your wheel spoke, not that I like it but most of the parts on american bikes, and cars are manufactured in foreign countries and then assembled here. I work at a GM dealer and most parts we install are marked Mexico, China, France etc... |

Sorry, but it's a little amusing for me to see folks bemoan the demise of the D616. When they debuted, people couldn't "hate on them" fast enough... Personally, I always liked the D616. BTW, I have a 190/50-17 D616 (used on my MTS1200) with about 3K miles of usage that I'll GIVE to anyone if they'll pay shipping & handling (let's say $5 for handling). --Doc |

Darn, when I saw Dr. Greg posted I 'knew' I was going to read that he picked up a really good condition Ulysses and was back on board! Oh well, maybe next time. Hope you're doing well, Greg. |

I've always supported the 616. Proper pressure and I could get 15k out of a front with no cupping. Its the only tire I've ever run on my Uly...and I have zero complaints about the tire. I'd love to see it come back as a dual compound though!! |

Motorsport.com still has the D616 rear available on their website. You'd probably want to call and confirm, though. Its possible they just haven't updated the item on their site. |

I've got a fresh unmounted D616 in the basement, waiting for the current D616 and a Scorpion Trail to wear out. Or maybe I'll wait a bit and sell it on eBay! http://www.ebay.com/itm/301022-D616-High-Performan ce-Radial-Tire-Rear-190-50ZR17-/330954960329

Just remember, there's a difference between *advertising* on eBay and *selling* Not like a Uly is a restoration project. Yet. I did score 2 sets of 225/55ZR15 Goodyear Gatorbacks for my 89 Shelby CSX a couple years ago. 500 cars built...total. 2 options available - Recaro seats, and the Gatorbacks (standard tires were 195/60 GT+4's). My car is one of 15 built with both options. I got 2 sets, NOS, indoor-stored and date-coded...for $500 shipped to my door. Gave my tire guy Bob a heart attack when I bird-dogged him as he mounted and balanced a set on the factory FIBERGLASS wheels. Someday a primo Uly may be worth that sort of 616 price...but not while I'm riding it daily, and CERTAINLY not *MY* beat-and-filthy bike!! |

Just ordered a D616 rear 180/55ZR17 from Motosport for $165 shipped. Powersports Place had them for only $147 shipped, but I've never heard of them before--would rather stick with a vendor that I've previously heard of. Several on-line motorcycle parts and accessories stores are clearing them out. Get them now while you still can if you like these. Motosport had a statement on their website that they didn't have them in stock, but could get them and ship them out in 7-10 business days via 3-day shipping. So we'll see if they arrive in the next 3 weeks or not. I can always get my money back if I don't. Figure I'd get a rear only to keep the same style/brand tires on the bike until the front wears out (I've typically gone through 2 rears for every 1 front). I'd rather have the dual-compound tires, and will probably switch to dual-compound PR3's when I will need fronts and rears in the same riding season. The D616's with their big-block tread pattern look pretty cool on the Uly--don't mind one bit keeping them on the bike for a few more riding seasons, even if their performance is a bit below some of the better-performing street tires. |

Yessir, doing fine. And I do still monitor this board. Prolly not too likely to be back on a Uly, however. --Doc |

How many miles does the average D616 last? Thinking about Dr. Gregs offer and wondering If it's worth it to have it shipped to Arkansas. |

Riding hard I get 5-6k out of a rear, and 3 rears to a front with the right PSI. |

Checked with a few on-line tire stores today, including one that I put an order in with 12 days ago and hadn't heard back from yet. Can get a D616 FRONT all day.....can't get a D616 REAR anymore unfortunately, from anyone. All out of stock at the warehouses. The supply pipeline evidently dried up. Someone has one on eBay for $700. Don't want one that bad. Looks like I'll be riding with with two different brands of tires for a while. Will get a Michelin Pilot Road 3 or 4 when the time comes. The reviews for those are coming in pretty highly rated (for life and grip). Don't plan on taking my Uly off road so the street tread is fine with me. |

I may have found my solution. I was at an EBR dealer yesterday, and they're also a BMW dealer (and Duc, and HD). They had a new GS-A with these on it from the factory: http://motorcycle.michelinman.com/tires/michelin-a nakee-iii Nice thick carcass, good looking tread, and while a 170/60-17 isn't ideal...it's a hell of a lot closer to being "right" than the 150s you see in other brands. I've had great luck with the PR2 and PR3 tires on my street bikes, and reviews of the Anakee 2 are very good. The 3 is a newer version, but they look to have good reviews so far as well. Hmmm.... |

No, you are thinking of the Sync, which has been discontinued for years. The Trail has a nice meaty carcass and does fine off road, it is the OE tire on the Ducati Multistrada |

My remaining front D616. Not sure why it developed such terrible cracking, but I'm scrapping it at only 4000 kilometres and less than a year on the road. It was manufactured in 2012. (Message edited by dtaylor on April 21, 2014) |

Doug, looks like you keep your PSI up to spec (which in my experience is essential to keeping a front 616 from cupping) but wow, never seen one separate like that. Do you ride in sub-freezing temps much? might have something to do with it.. Overall I'm pretty bummed about the discontinuation of the 616.. aside from accelerated center wear from hwy use they are a great tire with a super tread pattern. A dual compound 2nd generation version would sure be nice.. kinda like michelin did with their super popular pilot road 2 & 3's. I'm not holding my breath for one, though |

Agreed. All someone needs to do is come out with a dual-compound "rain tire". That's where Dunlop got the 616 from...it's basically a race rain tire, with a street compound. Probably why I can ride my Uly through standing water without any pucker... The biggest problem is, most "ADV" bikes have 21" fronts, not 17s, so the market is...shall we say...limited. |
