Hello all! I'm in the process of repairing a bad transmission slip that occurs when going from first gear into second. The dogs on the first and third counter were well worn and causing the issue. I have everything to do the job now...HD counter first gear, Andrews counter third gear, cometic gasket, two new shifter forks and even some machined thrust washers I had made to space one of the gears closer to engagement (per a 101 Things to Do book based on the Sportster). I'm all ready to do this...and then the Andrews gear comes in the mail. I ordered Andrews part number 299102 for the third counter shaft gear as is indicated on their website as a replacement for the HD third countershaft. Here's the old and the new side by side: And the p/n from the Andrews: And the gear in place in the transmission...the teeth on the Andrews clearly doesn't fit. Anyone have any idea why this gear doesn't fit the transmission...other than the fact that it's obviously different, haha. The Andrews site calls out this gear as a direct replacement. Will it only fit with other Andrews gears or something? Is this tranny different somehow? The tranny is marked as such: Any help is appreciated. I'm planning on calling Andrews tomorrow but I figured I'd ask here first...if anyone has an idea you guys would. (Message edited by drawkward on April 14, 2014) |

I have a done a little playing with the trans and gears. I think it is recommend you get matching pairs the gear and the counter gear so they match. I got original gears from surdye or something like that Harley on online. around 100 for per gear. You can also look on ebay - sometimes they are parting just the trans or gears etc. if the number of teeth change you need the matching counter gear. |

Thanks Mhlunsford...that's what I figured. I'm going to call them up tomorrow and confirm. I'll post what they say. |

Andrews gears are for direct replacement of -89C gears. The 2000 M2 has -94 gears. If someone wants to use Andrews gears in this tranny, they need to buy them in SETS! |
