had a major tank slapper going down the front straight during the heavy weight superbike race. the tank slapper pushed my pads out so by the time I got the front settled down I was out of pavement. Here are the pictures from the photographer. I'm ok-broken/major jammed thumb and a very sore shoulder. helmet toast, suit has some scars. Looks like immediate needs are new left k bracket, front fairing stay, front fairing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYrWJnoBBb0&featur e=youtube_gdata |

Dang, bro. I'm glad you are okay. Have you checked the bike to see if it's still square? Looks like it took a beating |

Ouch. Man, let me know if you need anything to get it back on the track. I don't have K brackets, but I've got gobs of all kinds of other unusual crap. Looks like you are using stock pods... I have fans and shrouds you can have for the cost of shipping if you need that kind of stuff. |

Jim I could probably use an inner shroud and fan, outer would be good also. Not worried about color or condition. they would be going to 23185 let me know. thanks next round is 3 weeks at NJMP. I found the k and fairing at surdyke. the tail section is going to take some major fiberglass work. |

Kruizen -- send me a PM with your address and your wish list. I can provide both inside shrouds for free. I can provide a crashed pod cover for free. I'll sell you a perfect black pod cover for a cheap price. Also have a tail section and a front fairing all in really good condition if you want those -- cheap price. Glad you are OK. Crashes are weird... they can be devastating. They can be invigorating. I've had both types. |

thanks everyone. subframe measured straight/square so that's a plus. I already had an extra undertail, tail section wasn't as bad as it looked, should be an easy fiberglass repair from the underside. outside pod was actually re-usable at first inspection with it completely off. Not going to really be able to get deep into the bike for a couple of days until my shoulder isn't as sore. It'll prob have sand coming out for weeks, shit was/is everwhere. |

Probably similar options to when a corolla broke my pelvis. The Ortho diagnosis was pretty much "Sucks to be you for the next 3 months". He was spot on. |

Did you have a steering damper? If so, what brand. If not, do you think it might have prevented the slapper? |

yes have a damper, turned on very lite. Never had happened before. Allowed someone supposed to be considered an expert adjust my suspension, after the crash I checked suspension and found maxed pre-load and max rebound. As suspension adjustment was only change I am going with that as a cause |

after the crash I checked suspension and found maxed pre-load and max rebound Whoa! That would make it loose for sure. |

Any suspension "expert" that sets your rebound to "max" is an idiot and as you unfortunately found out, dangerous. |

I have found the Ohlins guide to be pretty much fool proof. There used to be a bit more but for safety factor this may have been removed? It was a process for finding optimal rebound dampening. http://www.ohlins.com/Checkpoint-Ohlins/Setting-Up -Your-Bike/Underrubrik_1/ http://www.ohlins.com/PageFiles/304/CheckSagRideHe ight_MCRT.jpg Recommended Adjustment Range ±5 clicks from original (basic) setting. Rebound Damping If you have got a good feeling for the bike with spring, preload and the ride height feels ok but the bike runs low and packs down under acceleration bumps, with lost line and/or lost comfort and traction, open the rebound adjuster two [2] clicks. If the bike is nervous and moving a lot or has a high feeling entering corners, close the rebound adjuster two [2] clicks. Fine tune one [1] click at the time. Test run and make the necessary adjustments. For original rebound setting see the Mounting Instructions for your shock absorber. Compression Damping If the bike feels soft, unstable, is using too much wheel travel and you have the perfect spring for you; close the compression adjuster two [2] clicks. This will control the wheel during acceleration more, plus, it will help ride height and falling through the stroke too quickly. If the bike feels high, has bad grip at throttle opening and feels unsmooth over small or medium bumps during acceleration; open the compression adjuster two [2] clicks. Test run and make necessary corrections. When you have sufficient feel of the motorcycle you can make further fine adjustments. It is feeling and experience that counts. When you feel that you have achieved an improvement, go back to where you started and check once more. Note other relevant factors such as tires, temperature etc. Test run to make sure whether further fine adjustments should be made. Troubleshooting Problem Try This If the vehicle feels: - Unstable Increase rebound damping - Loose Increase rebound damping - Bouncy Increase rebound damping If the vehicle feels: - Hard Decrease rebound damping - Bumpy Decrease rebound damping If the vehicle feels: - Soft Increase compression damping - Low Increase compression damping - Bottoming Increase compression damping If the vehicle feels: - Harsh Decrease compression damping - Hard Decrease compression damping |

you tube link to a basic suspension class by Dave Moss ( On The Throttle guy) ...he is usually at Pridmore's Star school out here on the west coast: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ikjw4IheeF4 hope this helps...gravity never stops working, crashing sucks |
