Anyone out there familiar with a Force exhaust for an S1W? When I bought my 98 S1W it had a force exhaust on it. It was only mounted by the exhaust studs and the rear exhaust hanger. It didnt have the header support mount in the middle. I'm trying to figure out what I need for that mount. There was a good thread about force exhausts on here way back, but it died out long ago. http://badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/47623/4 41852.html?1305815465 I have the old style L bracket, I know the updated Y is the way to go, but will that work with a force exhaust? So any advice? |

I had 3 Force exhausts and all cracked at some point or another. The best option is to use whichever bracket you have but weld tabs onto the exhaust to mount it like any other, rather than using the silly band loop with rubber in it that Force supplies. All of the bands I had eventually worn out and/or snapped. Having tabs welded on the exhaust solid would prevent the shaking of the collector that causes the bands to wear. That's my $0.02 anyway. |

Maybe you can make something like this to work with the force

Thanks for the posts guys! Ross, I like the idea of welding tabs on, maybe something like this? http://www.gpr-motorcycle-exhausts.co.uk/ProductIm ages/fullsize/S1_LIGHTNING___G_49c13e195aacc.jpg (Message edited by puls4521 on April 14, 2014) |

Ross, I just ran across your post on the 2-1-2 exhaust your working on. I have a better idea of how to do it now! |

Yeppers Kevin, like the one yu posted, or even the one BIB posted since it uses steel bands without rubber, but a solid mount I like would be more secure. The one in my post about my custom 1-2 muffler is actually the stock header. It has tabs welded on it from the factory to fit the exhaust mount. But yes, tabs like that. |

I would really like to do everything possible to keep this pipe from cracking. You think I would be better off solid mounting the rear as well? When I bought the bike it didnt have any rubber isolators on the rear mount. Also is there anything that would need to be done when welding the tab on to prevent stress build up from the weld? The last thing I want is to create crack from induced stress. |

The Force pipe was designed a light weight racing exhaust. As such, it is VERY thin, hardened steel. It can be very difficult the weld. Short welds are the best approach, allowing the metal to cool between strokes. The rear of the exhaust was always soild mounted, but only with one bolt. I would weld on a bracket that allows it to be held by both of the rear hangers to minimize side roll of the megaphone from vibration, but don't weld it onto the existing tab. rather weld a new tab onto a different portion of the megaphone, so it's stabilized, if that makes sense. In other words, if you were to try and twist the megaphone, you want two arms holding it rather than the one that's holding it now. (Message edited by phelan on April 14, 2014) |

That is great advice! Thanks for taking the time to write it up! That definitely makes sense with the two mounts for the rear exhaust. When I have it welded, I will definitely be having someone do it. Even though I know my way around a welder, I want this done right. Way to expensive for me to mess up! |

Will do! Hopefully sooner than later! I also had someone suggest changing the exhaust studs as they may have been stressed by not having a front mount on. Good idea? |

Yes, very. I broke two with my last Force exhaust. I forgot about that. Easier now than later if they break! And they're cheap!!! |

Ugh Force. I have one on my S1 and it has cracked multiple times until I had a buddy weld some tabs on the front of the muffler area and ditched the soft mount that it came with. Hard mount that thing. |

Anyone know if the tabs could be MIG welded on or would I need to find a TIG welder to help me out? |

Mig works just fine. Just be aware it is thin tubing and will burn through easily. |
