I'll start this off with this one, but feel free to ask your own: Can I take a 2000 M2 rear wheel assembly and bolt it up to a 1995 S2 and run it as is? I mean without anything else being done, as in "just trying out the M2 tire and wheel on the S2" type of thing? Same question for the front end as well, interchange of wheel and brake disk assemblies. I know the front S2 has the speedo drive so that may be an issue, I think. Thanks for any replies. | ||

Mike,should bolt right on no problem,same sprocket,don't know about brake disc as S-2 uses older style Brembo.Axle from S-2 should go right on.Take a look at the front wheel as it may have the little cut out for the speedo drive tang. | ||

Thanks. I'm toying with an idea. The gray M2 rims won't look right on the white S2 but looks are secondary. Gotta go collect some numbers now. | ||

Douglas, Go here http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/3842/12032.html?1018369287 and follow the trials and tribulations of Hogluvr getting his caliper off. The caliper needs to come off to get the wheel off, and it can be a bear to get it off the first time. | ||

If you take the brake pads out, the caliper SHOULD slide past the wheel. | ||

I have a question about my front brake rotor. It rattles like you wouldn't believe. Is this normal?? I bought the bike off a friend, who I trust alot, and he says it is a floating rotor. Is this annoying rattle normal?? | ||

HDBuell, It's true the disk assembly is a floater, hence the "buttons" connecting the rotor to the carrier. However, excessive rattling is not normal and probably indicates that the buttons have worn out & the assembly is ready for replacement. How many miles??? Hope this helps. | ||

S2 front rotors are notorious for making noise. Everything from a little whirling sound to much more. I think there was a kit offered to replace some of the carrier pieces but I'll have to dig it up. DAve | ||

I have the old part number for this "anti-rattle kit" at work I will post it tomorrow morning if someone doesn't get to it first.. Should be able to be tracked down with that P/N I would think. | ||

I'm pretty sure that kit is no longer available. My S2 rotor is also pretty noisy. It rattles like crazy. Another sound it makes is a funny kind of whine when the brake is applied. Sounds a bit like brushes on a comutator in a DC motor. Not annoying, just an odd sound. I kind of like it! I will however have to replace the rotor in the not too distant future as it is beginnning to pulse a little bit. It's got over 30,000 miles on it so it's due. Brad | ||

Ben, Brad - The rattle is just an annoyance AFAIK, mine does it too. Mine also pulses a little, and I'll probably replace it over the winter. Henrik replaced his with the '00 upgrade kit and is less than satisfied with the stopping power of the SS, so I'm investigating the EBC race rotors from Tat. If I do, I'll let you guys know how it works out. | ||

Philly, I had heard the same regarding the '00 stainless rotor. I like the feel of my S2 better than my M2. I want to keep the old rotor on the S2 as long as I can. Keep us posted if you gi the EBC route. Brad | ||

The EBC rotors are pretty nice...I am not sure what version Tat sells...but they make a street (can't re-build, fixed pins) and a race version(removable pins, you can replace the outer-ring). I got a few race rotors and they all worked well for us. Blake has one of my old ones...maybe he could comment? | ||

Well not sure if you can get this or not but here is the P/N: Brake Anti-Rattle Kit P/N 42577-97Y I know a few people who have put in a couple washers or something like that to help the rattle on the old rotors but I don't know the procedure details. My S1 rotor is horrible as well. I have to lightly hold the front brake at stop lights! | ||

Fus, I know what you mean! I try not to do that though, I think that's why my first rotor warped on my M2. The SS rotors seem to be more prone to warping than the old iron versions. I heard one possible reason for warpage is holding the brake on after a stop. Supposedly the heat concentrates under the pads and leads to warpage. I've got no proof of this, but I've avoided holding the front brake after installing the new rotor. I've got over 15000 mile on it with no problems. The original rotor wrped after only 5000 or so miles. Daves, can you check to see if the above part number is still available? If so, I want one! Thanks! Brad | ||

eew that would suck if I am doing damage Blu! I just can't take the damn rattle! It's almost embarrassing when the rotor rattle is louder then the exhaust! haha I have almost 16k and I don't believe its warped yet. (not all my miles but it looks to be the factory rotor) | ||

I'm sure it's worn out then. Mine has about 30,000 miles on it. Bikes been well ridden. I guess I'm just gonna have to fork out a little extra dough to help out this problem. Thanks for the help! | ||

When I was running the stock pads on my '02 M2, the front rotor had all these little marks on it between the ventilation slots. The little marks looked like pencil eraser sized spots of heat blueing or something? And it must have been warped, as at very slow parking lot speeds you would hear "drag, quiet, drag, quiet" as the rotor went through the caliper. When I replaced the pads with these green EBC front pads the little burn marks were quickly scrubbed off and no more does it make that sound. Now, it may well be that the EBC pads are grinding my rotor, --I don't know-- but so far at least it has seemed a solution to an annoying non-problem. Stubb | ||

I couldn't find a better place to ask...what makes brakes "glaze"? Mike has "glazed" his a couple of times, and mine have been fine from the beginning. We both have XB9s. Is there something he should do, not do? Just curious... | ||

back to the rattling rotor... add another one to the "noisy" pile. i like the noise it makes, but i'm wondering if it's actually dangerous to have it so loose? did the upgrade kit solve a safety problem or an aesthetic one? | ||
