I remember a "box of rocks" thread a while back where somebody suggested a few different oils to quiet down the clacky valves that these bikes have.

Is there a community consensus on this, or am I asking for a ton of individual opinions?

I seem to remember that someone said that Mobile 1 was decent, but the Honda oil was even better... Thoughts? Thanks!

I'd say Amsoil, but I can't hear anything but the exhaust on mine. : )

I only hear exhaust. When I heard the so called box of rocks it was because my stator bolts and rotor nut had come loose even after red loctite was put on them. If it just came about I'd check those.

I'm at just short of 35k miles now, it's had Amsoil in it since either 500 or 1500 miles, I forget which now.

What I'm currently running.

If you order any parts direct from EBR, you'll get an Amsoil recommendation card with the same 20w-50.

This is well said. IMHO you will receive anecdotes without evidence.

With that in mind.. unless the oil is extremely low or out, it will not change the sound of the engine.

Is that because it is the best, or because they are a sponsor?

As crazy as this sounds, I swear there's a difference. I notice a more quiet running top end with Mobil 1 20/50 or Amsoil than I did when I ran HD oil.

I only run Motul 300V anymore, so it's been a while, but I would have sworn I noticed a difference.

Mobil 1 with LSM. I have seen the LSM (Fastex surface modifier)outperform everything. The corporation I work for tested this stuff in heavy duty applications with oil sample analysis and I performed a test on a bearing machine with it. Special ops now uses it, AmTrak, among others. Never seen anything like it and no, I dont sell it, but do know the gal that is the rep. If your curious, contact her. Her name is Beth. bvroom@innovativelubrications.com

That sounds awesome. Is there a private facing distribution method yet or are they just a commercial/industrial supplier?

The gal I deal with, Beth Vroom (yeah, thats her real name) is a great gal. She will deal directly with you or with commercial accounts. I have to tell you though, the stuff isnt cheap, but it only takes a few ounces to a complete oil change. They also carry some AWESOME lubricants for firearms. Drop her an email. Tell her you spoke with Troy. She will treat you right. I cannot mention my companies name here, for obvious reasons, but she knows who I am.

How does the LSM affect the clutch?

I have an 08 and have had no seep or performance issues. I have put it in everything I own. Including the trannies. Something I did, before I would even consider the product, I took the LSM out to a friend of mine, who owns a bearing machine. He is an independent distributor of a engine oil competitor and I knew he would not be able to resist testing this stuff against what he carried. I tested it against every oil, including Amsoil, which I used to sell. After testing it against every oil that is available today, I was blown away. We emptied the oil bath of oil, that the bearing rides in and put coolant in it and ran it, with the LSM coated on the bearing. The coolant turned to a funky gel and eventually boiled out, but the bearing machine continued to run. If I would not have been standing there, I would not have believed it, I would have figured the test rigged. I wished I would have videoed it. Thinking about doing it again and doing just that to prove it. It does not contain any teflon crap or products to plug up the oil screen. I have seen that garbage and stuff like it and what it does over time. This is why I have always used synthetics as I have seen the problems with paraffin based products and those of the like. Anyway, not trying to sell the stuff, just posting my experiences with the product. I am a person that must "see it" to believe it and its made a believer out of me.

And if you call right now we'll double your order...

I have a hard time believing in any of these "magic" oil additives. Do you have any more detailed specifics on this product (do they?)? Their website and information is quite vague and offers no substantial information or evidence of performance. All of the test data is listed in percentages with no tangible values or baselines. There is no actual numerical data given (with units). I have seen many tests on bearing machines, I believe Justice Brothers used to tote one around, and those tests are usually easily debunked. They sure are neat in person though with the smoke and flame.

Musclecargod; not trying to sell the product, just giving my success with it. The company I work for, operates multi million dollar equipment and I have seen the oil sample analysis from having used this product. We specifically tested it on 3 separate units and the oil analysis was sent off too two separate certified labs. One completed a particle count as well. So there was good follow through and no manipulated results with both showing the same. Yeah, I will admit their webpage is vague and I cannot answer questions regarding that, that would best be directed at them. I heard that they are in the process of some substantial testing with an independent lab. I know that SWRI does superb work and I thought it was with them as their work is recognized everywhere. Just not sure. I cannot speak about the Justice Brothers, not having any experience with them or what they do, but as for the usage of the bearing machine in this instance, what it showed was not "smoke and flame", but was backed by lab analysis. Having tested it against oils I have used most of my life and have seen the oil samples from, I was in familiar territory. Again, this is what I have witnessed with the LSM.

If it works for you, run it. I guess I am just a skeptic when it comes to this stuff. For curiosity sake, what oil did you mix this stuff with? What does the oil analysis look like? How does the baseline (no additive) oil analysis look?

Sorry Musclecar, not sure which your referring too. My own or the company I work for? Both were different, one is Conoco Fleet Supreme CJ4 15/40, the other is Mobil 1 and Valvoline Synthetic. It didnt matter which one it was added to. The results were the same. Without the product, there was a history of wear metals. Didnt matter which oil. With it, there was not. I also am a strong believer in using a good filter. You can use great oil, but if your leaving 15 micron to float around, thats just ignorant. Thats my opinion.

Be Careful with these type oil additives since a lot of them are chlorine which is a very good high pressure additive. The problem is that it is corrosive. I am not familiar with LSM but have been involved with other products with similar results thru my job.

In the MSDS it lists that HCl will be a byproduct of thermal decomposition so there is certainly a chlorine based (EP) additive in it.

Musclecar; That is incorrect. This product does not have a chlorine additive in it, nor is it chlorine based. HCL is produced when burned, but this does not constitute the product is based from it. If you need further explanations of the product, I would say to contact the manufacturer. I am not their spokesperson, so wont comment on their product from here. They can defend themselves. I am pleased with what its done for me, which I refer back to my original post. I also know of the corporations that are using it and have spoken with the reps from those companies. All of which are multi-million dollar corporations. Thanks.

Musclecar; All is good. God gave you a brain and your using it. : ) I am going to be sending my oil off for analysis to Wearcheck. They are a very reputable lab that does analysis for many corporations as I desire to track my results. I have used them before, so trust them. If interested, I will keep you updated. Let me know.

Amsoil for me, huge improvement in shifting as that went in at 150 miles.
Now all I hear when it's running is the Drummer. : D
