Off the topic of Buells, but . . . I've noticed in a number of threads that employment concerns - laid off, career changes, job changes, etc. are at the fore of many fellow badwebbers' minds. Mine included. I've been looking for while, combing the job boards (Monster, etc.) and sending out resumes, getting nowhere fast. In my frustration I came across this article that opened my eyes to the reality of the Internet Job Board, and reinforced everything I should have known, or already knew but ingnored, about job hunting and managing your career. The site is asktheheadhunter.com. Great (free!) newsletter, too. I especially loved the article "The Wall Says it's Time to Go" - common sense questions that let you know it's time to start looking for greener pastures. What's the current state of job satisfaction out there - besides Daves and Bubba - we know you guys love your jobs

I can't say enough good things about my job. It's a world class (actually, more like "in a class of it's own" ) organization. They actually value each and every employee. It's refreshing to have that sense of family in today's cut-throat job market. My only regret....the organization is located in Green Bay instead of San Diego |

I found my last 2 jobs through Monster.com. I personally think the reporter has an axe to grind because the job boards are taking away some of his revenue stream. |

J- Cool. I only wish I had the same success - although I'm successfully employing the "put the resume on Monster to get noticed by recruiters" tactic right now. I'm not sure the author of the site has much of an axe to grind though. I'm pretty sure most of the target audience of his site isn't the target audience of his biz - i.e. large employers that hire him to find people. My best guess is he's kind of fed up with the hiring process most large corps. use to find people, which hurts his biz in a number of ways, like he can't get qualified people hired because he can't them past the HR screeners any more than you or I can get ourselves past the first line in a lot of cases. More people using his or similar techniques = his job is easier, i.e. less aggravating and more profitable. Lake if your job was in San Diego you'd have to deal with the Drew Brees thing - you're better off in Cheeseland. |
