anyone have a good locksmith that they can recommend and pass contact information to re-key a barrel key lock? I need to have two seat locks (one for an extra) for an S2 rekeyed to match ignition key. | ||

just order a new lock and key from HD. Pull the plastic cover off your key, the code is stamped into the metal underneath. Or, PM me (or just post it here) your key code. I have four locks that were on my saddlebags when I bought my S2. It had three keys - ignition/seat, left bag, right bag. I ordered four to match the iggy/seat, but kept the rest "just in case". If they match...pay for the ride and one's yours. Or just go "old school S2" and use velcro to hold the seat in place  | ||

Ratbuell is correct. Just go to an HD Dealer. I called mine in, took about 2 weeks and I got the correct key for the ignition, seat lock and OEM bags on my 96S2T. Also ordered the replacement steering lock, which is sold as a complete assembly, lock and key. The key set was $22.75 The steering lock was $55.77 No muss no fuss! | ||

Naturally mine is more complicated.... The lock that is on the bike and factory matched is frozen, trashed? Common problem on these.... I have another that I bought that didn't come with a key so I'm trying to rekey that one to match ignition or get a key made.... | ||

Joe, are you saying we can get new locks for the seat and bags to match the ignition key from HD? If so, you just made my day  . BTW, any chance you have a lock for 3119? | ||

You'll pay as much to re-key as you will to buy a new set (cylinder and key). Remove the locknut that holds it on the bike, swap the tab to the new lock, and install. Dirt simple and you get two new spare keys to boot! | ||

That's exactly what I'm saying if you do what I did you'll end up with an assload of spare keys - each cylinder comes with two keys, at least they did when I got mine - but yeah. Pull an old one out. Take it to a dealer and say "I need X of these, code 3119". Its a standard HD barrel lock, couple weeks and you'll have em. | ||

Slightly off subject, but the locks for S3 bags are different than the older S2 style. I'm thinking David has S3 bags, thats what I have and for me, the locksmith wouldn't touch the plastic S3 locks, but did the ignition no problem for $10.00 As long as he can find a tail lock, I'd rekey all to match the bags and get one key for all. The S2's often had an ignition key, a tail key and several bag keys. Then add in the odd fuel cap and forklock key. | ||

I thought the seat locks were no longer available from the dealer... if they were that would be the no brainer way to go, brand new lock never seen moisture, two new keys to go with it. tried to order a seat lock and no luck so I seem to be stuck with getting a key made for the lock I have. not trying to rekey the S3 bags to match, I've heard that is next to impossible... so looks like I will have three keys to a very simple bike, one for ignition, one for seat latch and one for saddle bags... found a locksmith that will make a key if I send him the tumbler set, but he said he cant rekey the tumbler to current key, I'm going to send him the current key anyway and ask him to try just in case...and if not, just make a key for the lock... odd but no one around the DC metro area that I have called wants to mess with a barrel key lock... | ||

The parts book does show a different number for the bag lock than the seat lock, but physically...I can't think of a reason they won't interchange. I'd need to get my S2 out of its hibernation spot to pull it apart though. My bag locks have a bag with "O0620.8" (that's "oh-zero-62-zero"), and it's dated 12/10/07. Left key looks like 3841, R could be 3102. I have them zip tied to the locks they go to. I also have four brand new 3120 - I suspect they may be what fits my bike, but I'd have to check the key that's in the ignition and that's way out in the garage...and it's late....and I'm beat.  | ||

Found someone that could make a key for the lock. Had to mail it off though. No one local wanted to mess with it... Should have it back in a week... | ||

Just ordered a new lock for my nearly stock bike from HD. The barrel won't turn without a ridiculous amount of jiggling. I showed them my registration and my key. They showed me a price tag of $192. I about choked based on the pricing above. If the bike wasn't in such stock shape otherwise, I'd have found a cheaper non-stock alternative! | ||

Roger, that much for a single barrel? That seems quite odd. Have you tried squirting wd40 in the lock and/or cleaning the key? My key had a lot of gunk on it and would turn fine but wouldn't come out without jiggling when I turn the bike off. | ||

Ross, I thought I was only buying a single barrel that matched my current key. What I got was a full set, two new keys, no match for the original set. I was a bit po'd. Since it wasn't a match I decided to try WD40. Worked wonders. With all of the lock issues I'd seen I assumed it was worn out. It was clogged from lack of use! | ||

I'm not sure how the lock is on an S2 but so far I have managed to rekey a steering head lock on an X1 myself. Next up is the seat lock. Maybe I'll do a writeup on it. | ||
