....bike porn.... Went to Battley Cycles in Gaithersburg MD yesterday. A friend just got her license and wanted to look at some used Dynas they had in stock, and I needed an excuse to go see the RX (and any excuse to hang with Kristen - who is 6'2" in her bare feet - is a good one!). I walked in, and not only was there a beautiful yellow RX on the floor ("come back when it's not pouring rain and we'll go for a ride!" said the rider-coach salesman) ...but there was also a drop-dead-sexy red-and-carbon 2013 RS on a table. Serial #0001. The RX (serial 0100)...was LIGHT. It felt half the size of my CR - the shoulders are super narrow and the whole body is thin like a rail. But even with the factory peg setup, my lanky half-metal body could tuck in just fine and I don't think I'd have any problem getting comfortable for longer rides. Ergos are very nice, the TFT display is SUPER cool, there are nice easy to read adjustment screws on the forks, the headlight is simply bad-ass, and you can just sit and stare at that hubless rear wheel for hours. It is a piece of art. The only single flaw I found on it was a super-heavy clutch spring. I have big paws...and it was a hard pull. I have read that it lightens some with the engine circulating fluid and once it warms up, but since I didn't ride it I can't speak to that. The levers are fully dial-adjustable for reach, though, so presuming it actually does lighten with a running engine, folks should be able to get it adjusted for comfort. I think I will definitely be back once the weather cooperates, for a demo ride. I rode the Uly down - it was 50 and cloudy when I left the house, but by the time I got there - an hour away - it was pouring and 40. Drenched and freezing the whole way home too - but at least now I know I have GOT to re-waterproof every piece of riding gear for the season!! If you haven't had the chance to check out an RX yet, I highly recommend it. The fact they have it sitting next to an RS...was a bonus. It was cool being able to compare the differences between the handbuilt RS and its components, to the production-built RX. Seeing the evolution of the parts in just the couple years' time it took to bring the RX to market and certification...it's pretty cool to look at. | ||

Here in Houston there is a dealer which is now carrying EBRs. Houston Superbike is the shop and I had the pleasant experience of visiting their shop and having them work on my 1125R. I had them replace the Stator/Rotor on my 09 to an 08 setup I previously purchased from EBR. Their mechanic knows his craft--much better than my skills! Now if a kit was available for the 1125 which relocates the radiators like the RX has...  | ||

As for relocating the radiators, the Flexi-Glass kit for the 1125 is really good. It won't relocate them, but does change the airflow, and it works great. It's not suitable for street applications, though. | ||

Houston Superbikes is a candy store--Waylon is a real works mechanic. I had looked at Flexi and it is good stuff--just wishing for a retrofit like the 1190RX has for the 1125. Sure would help on those brisk summer afternoons! GOE is the other shop in the Houston area which is supporting EBR and overall a great shop. But, I can't seem to forget how their wrench moaned about how he hated Buell designs and that when he worked at HD he even told Erik they were crap. | ||

Man Buells are the best for working on. Everything is just right there and easy to get to! At least in race trim. Yea, definitely go with the wrench that likes his job. The RX cooling system retrofit is do-able, but it's a shit-ton of work. That's one of those sets of parts that falls into my "requires fabrication" category. It would be a huge job to get all that working. |
