Just picked up this bike #109. Roughly 4000 miles on it in good shape other than the following Looking to find somewhere to purchase the carbon pieces that have the blue weave in them. Prior owner decided it was a good idea to paint over the originals. Is there someplace to get them like original and not the standard graphite or carbon color ones? I know there's a good place in the Netherlands that makes all carbon fiber parts which I've bought for other bikes. On the other side of it can I still get other parts through a Harley shop or is there someplace that's recommended? |

Could you strip them and re clear the carbon? |

That's what I was thinking of doing just not sure how far they striped them originally. Going to have a paint shop I trust take a look. Hopefully it' was just light scuff work then air brush. Just figured I'd ask around along with my searches on the net to see if I have to can I find them as original. |

Paint over the originals? What an idiot. One of the most rare Buells ever built. You won't find any replacement CF. That blue/black stuff is super rare. Good luck on the refinish. Do your homework. Measure three times before you cut. |

Not sure if you can find any of the blue weave. I just sold my carbon #209 to my brother. When I got it the carbon had faded but wasn't all the way gone. I ended up taking all of it off and putting new carbon on it from Al at American Sport Bike. It doesn't have the tint but at least it keeps the original blue carbon preserved. |

The blue weave is very rare. They only made it in the late 90's into early 2000's it was used mainly for F1 cars! I have a lower chin fairing and the gas tank cover in blue fiber. But they are not for sale! It took me 3 years to find those 2 parts so good luck!! |

Well I do appreciate the info. Still eating the options for possibly stopping the "art work" off the original parts that remain. Someone actually did some very detailed Iron Maiden airbrush work. It'd be a shame to wipe it out however I may end up doing so due to the rarity of these carbon fiber and overlayed Kevlar weave parts. Still going to cost a bit to replace the other missing parts so who knows what I'll find in the mean time. I'll post any info I find for reputable sources if any for original style blue parts. |

not going to damage it, going to mount it on a headlight mount, with a clock in the headlight, no modification to the CF! |

That is a super idea. As a liker of timepieces I should get my black stone chipped bug squashed one out of hibernation and do the same. Bloody brilliant! Rocket in England |

Sleez, looks like yours is faded some too. It's turning the dark green instead of the blue. Just make sure you don't hang it on a wall that will see any sunlight or you will just ruin it. |

yeah, it is slightly green, but i don't have to worry about it matching any other CF |

Off Topic: I'm saving my six pin Buell rotor for a wall clock. Had a KZ1000 Z1R rotor clock for years then the rotor got to be worth $200 on ebay and I didn't care what time it was so much ; ) |

A good three or four, or seven or so (I did seven on my Buell branded front fender ad decided it was "good enough" though with a few low spots still) layers of thin clear coat with a UV blocking additive can bring a lot of CF back from the brink... I wonder if you might just work very carefully at the airbrush work with a 2000 grit wet sand. IF you want pristine CF, especially if you're going to keep it original, you'll want to add some coats of clear coat with UV protection anyway. It doesn't last long unprotected in real world/actual riding conditions anyway. I've given up on the stuff as a finish quality accessory after having most of it wear out after a few years of riding, the stuff is High Maintenance. |

been a bit harder finding some headlight mounts than i would have thought!! apparently they are made from gold or platinum, will happen. it currently sits on my die-cast display shelf, looks cool, just not telling me what time it is yet! may just have to get some stainless bent into shape, and go from there. i am after some, but don't need to spend restoration money on a display. if they are in good condition that a bike could use, would hate to take parts that would be going to getting a bike on the street. |

i am considering taking the flyscreen to a good airbrush painter, having them mask the Pegasus, and giving a blue translucent coat to the field CF to make it pop a bit, then clear coat the whole thing, should turn out good. |

Here is what the original unfaded blue looks like for reference. These must have been gorgeous bikes when new. |

For some reason, I just became aware of a 1999 CFE listed today for sale in this site's classifieds. |
