I have had my s1 one season and it was a labor of love. I obtained the s1 on trade, I had a Blast for my first riding season and quickly outgrew it. I came across a CL add for a s1 and the guy accepted a title swap. Little did I realize that the s1 was just too large for my vertically challenged legs. So over last winter I had the suspension completely reworked (resprung front, penske rear). I was able to just teeter the bike. I rode that way for all of last summer. However, I just didn't feel comfortable not being able to flat foot the bike. So with the new season growing closer, I (with the support of my father in law) decided to modify the s1 so that I could safely ride the bike. Started by removing everything from the rear.  Then really removed everything....wooden seat was a joke...  I reused the rear tubing that was amputated (my father in law's great idea). More photos to come this weekend. Currently it is at the welders to install the mounting brackets. I will be buying a battery tender battery (smaller and much lighter)/ ERB battery or antigravity battery, already have convertible handle bars, knight design lowered foot pegs. The manta tank will be replaced with the smaller version since I need to move the convertible handlebars as far back as possible. I need to think about the oil tank and final design for the seat. I can't believe you took an S1W as nice as that with the PM wheels, Banke etc, obviously a well loved and cared for Buell, and mutilated it. WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE? Go buy a bike that fits you. I do not get the logic that says, oh that's a nice bike I'll own it. Then chop it to feck, throw stuff off, and turn what you surely must have liked the look of when you bought it, into some kind of fecking abortion. it was and still is a nice bike. I say if he does it right and cleanly then who cares. He obviously loves buells like the rest of us so instead of depriving himself of one he is making it work for himself. People have no problem when it comes to modifying other parts of the bike but if it comes to simply lowering the seat so the OP feels safer and more comfortable then its an "abortion"? OP keep on keepin on. Its your bike so do what you want. still excited to see how it turns out. | ||

Rocket, I was waiting for your words of "wisdom." Its not a s1w, I put the manta tank because I ride long distances. It started life with a twin tail as well. I tried many bikes but fait took me to my current one and why shouldn't I be able to modify my bike to be safer for me? Everyone has their own opinion, that's fine. In the end its my bike, my money and my legs that will finally be able to touch the ground. And to be honest, the twin tail was ugly and the solo wasn't much better. I liked the tube frame, pm wheels and the fact it has a 1200 motor. (Message edited by Gianni312 on March 12, 2014) | ||

Ken, The seat section will only consist of the subframe, pan and cushion. The tail will end above the rear axle and will be entirely adjustable, pitch and height with rose joints and able to be disconnected with three bolts. I like my theory, just hope it comes out how I envision it. I should be picking it up from the welders this Saturday. I will post more pics. I am going for the style of the "Yes she can" Buell that I'm sure your familiar with. | ||

Alright dude, why couldn't you simply lower the suspension some? How do you plan on putting a proper rear on the bike and still keep it looking proportional? Best of luck, but there's got to be another way other than the cat's tail in the air look....which has gotten way out of control in my opinion. | ||

General, I lowered the bike as much as I could with the purchase of a new fully adjustable penske, lowered the front forks into the triple trees, any more would have been unsafe. The tail is still being worked out; however, I can promise you it will look nothing like your rendition. | ||

Gianni, Rocket's right you should have just sold the bike to the dude that parts all the Bikes on Ebay or a chopper head on Craigslist and bought a Sportster  in the end it's your bike. I'm interested to see what you're planning...I'd like to change the tail on mine as well but I just want to put a single tail back on it. | ||

While I like your idea Rocket, I did have some Alpinestars boots, briefly, to try the whole armored and lifted boot thing. I couldn't shift my bike at all with my heel on the peg, so I sold them off after 3 rides. | ||

I have a very short inseam and ride a 1" lifted S1. One leg. One square foot on the ground is all you need to ride anything. If anything the rear ride height could have been lowered. Ya dun messed up. I hope you can prove us wrong. | ||

Gianni have a good look at my profile pic. The PO of my bike was 5'6" made the cowl/seat out of the original pan. I'm nearly 6' so I got a factory seat to get back the legroom. | ||

Jim, Thanks, nice bike, unfortunately my inseam is 27". I tried everything including platform boots. Just spent a couple hours at the weld shop. My bike is progressing; however, I forgot to take pics. Should be done by end of week. | ||

Adjust forks & shock but leave frame stock. Ride mx bikes learn to ride a tall bike it's not hard once you learn. On long rides my feet are on the pegs most of the time. One foot on ground fine I meet a guy with only one foot & one arm riding & he was fast too. | ||

I agree, you shouldn't cut a tuber frame just on principal, but it's too late for this one....Just hoping now that Gianni gets it just how he wants it, and then keeps it forever. Otherwise, Rocket is right, it will likely end up a Redneck Mutant Zombie. You know, the X1 makes a lot more sense for these mods - you don't have to cut the stock set section off. The X1 also has that cool removable side plate. Just saying, for anyone else vertically challenged and considering this same mod. | ||

Well, I just received the bike back from the welder. I like everything; however, I am rethinking the use of the hines joints in favor of a more solid mounting system.   this week will be designing a oil tank and buying a new smaller battery. |
