Hey all! So I have a question about mixing oil viscosities. I have been needing to change my oil in my 1125r because I just reached the 1 year mark from my last amsoil change (maybe 3k miles on it...I know I know, I should be riding more, but I digress, I need a new rear tire also, There is almost 28k on the bike that I have put on since new lol). Due to some recent financial worries I have been putting it off, however a buddie of mine just gave me about 1.7 quarts of 10w-40 motorcycle amsoil and I have 1 quart of the 20w-50 asmoil v-twin oil and the oil filter already...so would it be ok to mix the 10/40 and 20/50 together since they are both motorcycle amsoil and wet clutch approved? Im a little shocked that I have in my possession the exact amount needed to change the oil, so if I can get a little help it would mean alot! Thanks guys! Jake | ||

It shouldn't be a problem as they have very similar chemistry. The only thing that may be an issue is the summer heat in AZ. | ||

I would mix it. They are both good oils. | ||

No issue, just remember you will have about a 13W-43 or so. | ||

I am an Amsoil dealer and I don't think you should have any issue mixing the oils. However, the performance of the oil will change as Cutty72 has mentioned. TBN on both oils is the same, but the 20W-50 is a bit more shear stable. So I wouldn't go for an extended drain interval with the mix but it should get you by. | ||

Much appreciated guys! looks like I found about a half quart or so more of 20/50 so gonna be about 1.5qts. of 20/50 and 1.2qts. of 10/40! Thanks again! Jake |
