Anyone got any insight on how to purchase the bikes used for a riders edge class? I would assume the dealer would just want them out of the inventory and take the tax write-since they made the money on the class fees. | ||

The HD in Bloomington, IN sells theirs for $3595 and include a two-year warranty. They have a blue 2007 Blast currently available on their website (indianaharley.com). | ||

I saw a couple 2006 Blast RE bikes sell for $2500. Find a BIG HD dealer as they will have alot of them for their classes, and will try to sell the BIG bikes to the students so nobody will want them, just like the toys on Misfit Island!. | ||

Jatelson: Different Rider's Edge dealers have different training fleet sales policies. H-D makes us replace them before they are four model years old if we treat them as an asset. At the end of the fourth year they are usually sold for about $2000. That is how my dealer manages their training fleet. They are sold as is with no warranty in this scenario. Other dealers manage their fleet as inventory and they are always for sale. The price will vary depending upon age, mileage and condition. If sold prior to two years of use the new owner will get the standard Buell two year warranty coverage from the date they take ownership. If you are interested in low price, a local rider training program here in Omaha has three they wish to sell. They are former fleet bikes from my Rider's Edge program. There's two at Shenandoah Buell-Harley Davidson in Staunton Va., I think they want $3,200, but will probably deal. I teach there and bought mine from there and it's been solid and reliable for three years. | ||

I purchased my Blast from Wildfire Harley in Villa Park, IL for $1795. It's a 2006 with 527 miles. I may actually get delivery of it tonight. It's supposed to have some scratches, so it's not a mint motorcycle but, it was gone over mechanically. I'll try to post an image tomorrow. I got my 2007 that had 423 miles for $2995 from Latus HD in Portland, Or. I got a really solid bike backed by the dealership for 2 years at a fair price. Nice work Snowflakeschance. I looked all around for a few months and felt like I did alright for myself. But eriko is right, you straight stole that thing! | ||

Thank you, Gearheaderiko and Thump! I can't wait to learn how to ride my motorcycle in a gear other than 1st! Anyhow, like I said, it does have some scratches but, I figured with what I may end up doing to it, I would rather have someone else have put scratches on it first. When I get some riding under my belt, I'm sure it wouldn't cost too much to get it painted. I'm thinking orange with white racing stripes.  | ||

I think this motorcycle needs to be cleaned up worse than anything. I did manage to cut off the giant, old-school TV that someone placed on the corner of our block. It makes Matt start singing, "In the Ghetto," when he sees it and then I can't get that darn song out of my head!  What makes me mad is that I specifically asked to have a low seat but, they sent me a standard seat. | ||

Snow, those scratches ain't nothin - that thing is pristine! rough fuzzy plastic can just be "shaved" off, and/or sanded. and the shifter peg is easy to straighten. If you want the low seat, (someone will probably want to trade with you), then you might also want to shorten the shifter - the peg unscrews, so you can just drill and tap a new hole and cut off the extra length. looks like you really nailed a great deal!  | ||

Scratches are just improvements on the original! I've kept all the scratches my bike had as a RE bike. The blast was made to ride hard and to learn on, so don't worry about adding a few more. They're great stories at poker runs. Hey Court, next time you're in Central Va., give a buzz. Take ya to lunch in Charlottesville! | ||

Hey SnowFlakes. Sounds like you got a pretty good deal. Don't give the scratches a second thought. It just adds character to the bike. You've made an excellent choice by purchasing a Blast. They are reliable as an anvil and every time you get on it you'll know why they are named "Blast". I loved mine and after 10 minutes on yours, you'll love it too. Oh, and welcome aboard. You've found the best source of Buell information short of East Troy. | ||

No doubt on RE bikes, and mostly the Bloomington HD is going to dump RE bikes now with remainder or complete warranty. Mine was a RE bike sold in nov 07 with complete warranty, owner sold back to dealer and I got it in spring 08 with warranty till nov 09 and I can extend it. Put over 13k miles and 3 rear tires on it(new when bought and 2 more Pirellis and have new for front in spring as Dunlop is bald at nearly 15 k. I have bent the peg on the shifter twice, and to me the shifters are a little too long but I love to ride. | ||

Question, Today 5 '06 Blasts were offered on eBay starting at $795. All looked pretty clean and complete, some had a little tip over damage, but all 5 were listed with the same problem, "Wont Shift Past Third Gear" Seems unlikely that all 5 of these motorcycles were suffering from the same issues. I grabbed one, how could I resist at that price? Any idea on what might be going on with them since all had the same issue? | ||

Fix / perform shift pawl adjustment. Those are all rider's edge bikes. HD plans to replace them with bikes 200 lbs heavier, same power, and made in India. Dumb ass's should have just continued making Blasts, since they owned all the rights to them in the first place, but since they don't look cruiser enough, they will import heavier iron to do the job. Ezblast, These were RE bikes being sold. Hope the fix is as easy a an adjustment. Maybe there is nothing wrong with it. We shall see. Had a 2001 Blast, some sweet gal fell in love with mine, I couldn't not sell it to her, so I did. She loves it and we go on rides - I on my CityX and she on the Blast. As silly as it seems I miss the Blast - so I have one on the way. Although not all that technically perfect a way fun ride! | ||

Most RE bikes have to be fixed by HD mechanics who get over 100 bucks an hour - so if the bike has a list of issues - which most RE bikes have - then it comes to a point that they are not worth fixing. EZ | ||

Concur! But you forgot to mention that they don't like working on them, don't consider them of any value and don't know how to work on them! That's a generality of course, but very often true. I'm sure when then get the new RE bikes, they'll wish they had the Blasts to work on! | ||

I bought the RE blast. They were right, won't shift past 3rd gear - well it will, onto nothing... Anyway, found that two of the three shift forks were bent. Parts now on the way. I have been told by a knowledgeable Buell/HD wrench (when I was buying the parts) this isn't uncommon on RE bikes. Students fall of of them and the gear shifter gets whacked while the bike is in gear. This is the result. I also found that the engine had been overheated (regular occurrence I'll bet) and the piston and barrel were damaged. Anyhow, when I get this all back together it'll effectively be new again, repaired gearbox, fresh top end, new clutch, drive belt and primary chain. Ought to be good to go. Just waiting on parts to come now... |
