I have a 2009 Buell 1125R with only two non-factory modifications. the EBR ECM and a HFM Exhaust. I run this bike at the track for track days and on the street. I am at about 9000 mile and intermittently all the lights and gauges on the bike will go out. No head lights, no gauges or gauge lights; however, the bike will continue to run. Lucky for me every time this has happened I have been someplace I can pull over and look at it. The odd thing is it will start working with me doing nothing and then at some random point go bad again. I worry that if I keep riding it I will short something out. I also fear that if it stays in that condition I will drain the battery. I will also indicate that the bike often has a very bad habit of backfiring when starting. The engine runs great and keeps running even with this odd electrical issue. Any help would be great!

I had a kawasaki concours that Did that , turned out to he had solder joints in the fuse his. Replaced it and Jo more issues. Haven't heard of that issue with the 1125. No errors or codes showing up?

Could be a bad cluster ground. There are four (as I recall) ground connections for the bike. The IC cluster has a ground to the steering head. Could be corroded or loose, thus intermittent fail. Weird stuff happens when the grounds are bad.

Check the voltage reading at the battery when the gauge/ headlight issue occurs. It may be over 14.5 volts. If it is, voltage regulator

It's probably your ignition switch.

Take the ignition switch apart and you'll see it.

May also be shorting out on a sharp edge of the fairing stay where the wiring passes by.

Probably not the ignition switch if its running fine.

I had loose fuse issue that were causing some of the same issues. Grounds are also a good place to look

Thanks for the inputs. It being winter I have not had much time to look at this issue yet. I have checked it a couple of times and all seems to be OK. I had a couple of days above 40 degrees where I was able to take it out for a short ride. I HATE ELECTRICAL issues! I will continue to monitor the issue and I will post once I figure it out.

did you check your voltage and make sure your not overcharging as SamG posted?

+1 on voltage regulator. I had this issue accompanied by a funny noise almost like a humm. The worst part was my tail light/brake light wouldn't work either.

Voltage regulator like what was said. Fixing mine now and it did exactly that. When you get an overvoltage it shuts off the dash and lights. It goes back to normal when your fans kick on and takes the overload off of the regulator.

Sounds like the Voltage Regulator will be my first check as soon as I pull it back out of the trailer. I have two project bikes I am working on right now. 2009 Buell Blast conversion to Cafe racer and a friends 1973 Honda 350 that does not run.

Sounds like an ongoing issue I have with my '09 1125R. It started happening way back when bike was in warranty. Dealer techs never did find cause. I now (for several years) ride with high beams on at all times. IC never goes blank. Only exception is when I have heated gear in use. Somehow it needs the load on the charging system to be right.
