Im running 2.5" precision engineering risers with a renthal Ricky Carmichael bar on the X1. On the S1 tank. Im sure you could use more inexpensive epoxy. I wanted to use the best and through my research the west system is good stuff. Im sure you could use fiberglass aswell. Might be a bit stiff to lay in one piece. Worst case is you just make a mess. This is all new to me. I am learning from a friend that does this. No idea how it will hold up. But I plan on riding it all summer! After I laid down the carbon on the base epoxy layer I waited 24hours then cut out the gas cap hole. After 2nd coat to seal the carbon I used a razor blade to trim the carbon around the gas cap part for a clean blend when gas cap is installed |

Well at least you agree with my observations and I'm correct about the seat in that you've done it for doings sake. You have committed Buell blasphemy though. How could anyone tire of looking at the S1 seat unit? It's a stunning work of art and a defining part of the iconic styling of the S1's. Rocket in England |

... thats an X1.... my S1 has a carbon seat and agree the S1 seat is awesome. The X1 not so much. I don't think Its that bad. You make it sound like I put forward controls and ape hangers on my bike. The stock aluminum loop is ugly. Time to change it up. This bike will be forever changing. More blasphemy to come. |

I agree the S1 seat/rear end is badass...although it's also bad for your ass . Although I have to say, that ebay S1 with the Duc seat actually works pretty well too. The duc tail seems to complement the tank curves on some level. That combined with the more modern looking XB wheels and front brake makes it looks pretty well integrated, I think. It appears as if the X1 seat is always a difficult segue onto other rear ends (other than stock). I think it's the squared off junction between the tank and the seat that makes the adaptation of another rear section difficult to make it look right. Can you install an S1 type Manta tank onto an X1 or is that a non-starter? |

Ah yes, it's an X1 and I'm a dumb455 lol. But I was poking just a bit of fun at you anyway. So glad it's an X1 lol. It's also great to watch your work and be allowed to comment on it without you taking offense. Not that I'm trying to offend of course Rocket in England |

I know there was somebody over here that fitted the S1 rear end on a X1. Looked really good. But was a homemade frame underneath and the plastics needed some modifications. |

Thats sweet! Love the S1 tail. And yes it its pretty much a 2x4 wrapped in leather. You can have the manta tank on a X1. Just need to make some holes for the fuel pump. I thought about that one. No offense taken rocket. I see it as constructive criticism. Brother_in_buells my X1 still looks like that. Just different tail. I had it like that for 10,000km. I'm never going to sell the tail section so I can always put it back. Working on the tank this week. Will post up some more progress updates as they come. |
