Cnc, good tools is half the work! Did mine with a small saw, a flat file and a lot of swearing and sweat. |

Did a couple of them with a bandsaw and files. It really doesn't take that long. The HD wrinkle paint is a perfect match. |

Oh, looks nice Marc, clean work! Brad, I think it's called "texture black" actually. I found a rotary tool followed by files made a nice clean blend to the rounded casting edges on the rest of it. Didja weigh yours first Marc, or anyone? I only used my digital bathroom scale and it couldn't decide it I'd cut a lb, or 1.5lbs off, wondering if anyone has got a more specific number than that? Is the HD texture black paint the same stuff that the engine is painted with from the factory? I always thought the engines were powder coated. |

Yes, the 'paint' on all powertrain components is Harley textured powder coat. The black and silver are both powdercoat, as of the mid/late 90s onwards. The reason being is that the ferrous blast medium would get lodged in the aluminum and corrode, turning the components a goldish color. |

I like the look, it gives it a very mechanical look to a very mechanical bike, it also makes it easy to access your oil line fittings and oil pump |

Is it just the picture or is the rear shock supposed to be at that angle ? |

the front mount is unbolted. I was in the middle of removing it when i took the picture, so the shock is hanging. The rear wheel is off the ground as well. |

Purpony, did you do the machining/have access to a cnc yourself or did you have it machined?... Wondering what you'd charge to do mine, or what it cost.....Yours continues to be one the best lookin X1's I've ever seen. |

Hello. Very nice bike, very good job. My cam cover has been cut years ago. Never regret. I also added an inspection hole for oil pump drive gear. Cheers,Ralph (Message edited by Xldevil on March 28, 2014) (Message edited by Xldevil on March 28, 2014) |

hey X1devil, I can't overstate how cool your cam access view hole is I assume it's threaded - what's the slotted screw from? when you tapped the screw's threads into the cam cover, didja also face the cam cover for the screw, or is it a set screw? |

Hello. The came cover is faced. The plug or cap screw is custom made from aluminum. Actually, right now my Cyclone is at Twinmotorcycles getting a big end overhaul and an upgrade to 88". Once it's back,I can take some more detailed pictures if the inspection hole arrangement if you want me to. Anyway, this hole is more or less a gimmick. You can not really investigate the oil pump drive. It's much to dark inside Since I ride the beryllium gear it' s useless anyway. Mine with chrome hardware, want to do a oil line replacement like Purpony has done, or a sleeved stainless line set like Joesbuell did.

my old honda cb125 twin had inspection caps similar to that to inspect the timing marks on the generator cover. just a matter of matching threads. |
