Those of you who have converted to XB rocker covers on an S2. I remember someone saying a while back that two front covers is ideal because of clearance issues with the rear. If the front and rear are interchangeable, would it be possible to just switch them, puuting the rear on the front and the front on the rear? I ask because I just picked up a set of front and rear polished, and would prefer to use them.

Phelan, I'm rebuilding/resurrecting my first S2 project, and it is a PROJECT!... I bought the full XB rocker box conversion from American Sport Bike, I've read that variances in tolerances and production cause some different fitment issues. some guys reported that they had no issue, others reported that they had to go with two front... I am "hoping" I am one of the ones that does not have an issue.....

Hi Jolly, I've been following your S2 build and it is awesome : ). I'm about to pick up my second S2 in a couple weeks from a friend of mine, and just looking for some deals on stuff on my wish list while waiting, and these fit the bill : D.

My 96 S1 started leaking oil from the front rocker cover recently. I thought the problem was oil seeping past the fiber washer on the front right cover screw. Nope, it turned out to be a hairline crack at the well for that screw.

So, if any of you are changing over to XB rocker covers and you don't need the old front cylinder's top rocker cover and it's in good shape, would you sell it to me? PM if interested.

Jolly is right, IIRC. Some had clearance issues and solved it with two fronts; others worked it out just fine with front and rear.

Just my 2 cents ...

When the BLAST(came out before the XB's) came out "i" saw this PCV as a good PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT ...

Put them in my OEM covers which allowed me to put(clearance allowing)where "i" best thought they should go ...

Buellistic that is a good idea but I prefer the XB covers for aesthetics and also to remove a gasket (2 piece boxes vs 3 piece)

You will get "WEEPING" around the GROMMET and the cure is to seal it with YAMABOND which you can get at your local YAMAHA Dealer ...

Another question, I can just remove the top two layers of the stock rocker boxes and replace them with just the top XB cover and gaskets correct? Because I'd rather not have to mess with the rockers themselves...

Have you already replaced the stock paper gasket under the rockerbox with the upgraded metal one?

I haven't, but it's likely the PO has, since the bike has Tstorm heads.

the metal ones are one piece spanning across both sides of the head under the rocker box, if you reach up under the rocker box on the rear of the rear cylinder you should feel the thin metal piece that connects both sides to make it a one piece gasket. if you feel that then you are good to go... if not, its probably the two piece paper gaskets which should be replaced.

The gasket in question is:

PN 16800-84A GASKET, rocker cover/cylinder head, valve & push rod sides ...

It is the ONE PIECE GASKET !!!
