My used 1125R is new to me and I have confirmed the instrument cluster is original to the bike and of the parasitic drain lot. (Tech Tip 396. printed for me there at the Harley dealership) My bike is not under warranty and I'm not the original owner. Did anyone else get Harley to replace their IC? I asked and was told "No". I can't tell If I'm asking for something ridiculous or reasonable. Any hints or suggestions? Cost of instrument cluster... $285.00 (portland, or) |

If your bike was under warranty and if it was causing battery drain it would be replaced at no cost under warranty. Given that your bike is not under warranty, and it is not a recall, they will not replace your cluster for free, regardless if it is causing drain. If the cluster is not causing any battery drain (not all do), then don't worry about it. If yours is killing the battery, then you can replace it on your own dime. $300 sounds about right for the cluster without looking it up. American Sport Bike probably has them in stock, while a dealer would need to order it and you would have to wait. Parasitic drain was also caused by a bug in early ECM programmings, be sure to check into that. The bug was that if you turned the bike off by the key switch without flipping the kill switch off first, the ECM wouldn't switch off correctly. |

Froggy - nope - parasitic drain was solely IC firmware, not ECM. Duane - the bright side is, a new IC will get you a "gear indicator". You will want to get an EBR race ECM if your ECM doesn't say "Race Use Only" . Welcome to the madness. Zack |

Thanks again for the replies, guys. Sorry to take so long coming up to speed on this: Was the instrument cluster ever the reason for a recall? Or maybe the dealership thinks that MY bike doesn't qualify for a recall? (my next stop on the internet: american sportbike. thanks for the tip) |

Never a recall on the IC. There were several tho, a couple of safety recalls that never timeout and 2 or 3 product recalls that are now expired. Anyone with a "new to them" 1125 should take it to a HD/B dealer and have them run the VIN for recalls. While there, have Service hookup to their Digital Tech to ensure the latest spark/fuel map is installed. Z |
