Well everything is in spec but my exhausts are at .011 min, is .010 and intakes are .006 and that's the min for them. Should I loosen them up a bit so they will be ok for a bit?Ii got 30,000 miles on her. Can't imagine her getting too tight for a while. I would like to try and get the shims out to see what size they are but the finger followers aren't really cooperating and I don't want to break them. Any feed back will be appreciated. |

If it was me I would loosen them up while you have the bike apart,That way you won't have do this for awhile, just be care full taking the plastic pieces out,I use a screw driver and carefully lift them out.Use your FSM it walks you threw it.I have done this on 3 different 1125s 5 times the last time I did not have to change them on my 2 bikes as i set them at max the first time and they were in the middle, the first time was an adventure but if you take your time all will be well.Be care full taking the shims out you can stuff clean rags done the holes, just ask Zack what a pain it can be if you drop one into the engine. |

Got the intake follower out. I"m tired and will deal with the exhaust tomorrow. Besides I gotta run and get a micrometer do to the last one being made in china from HF and turdin out on me. Gettin the motor in align. is gonna be fun. She is on a rear stand with no wheel and the front is chillin from a rafter with the tubes off. Every time I rotate it walks back. Definitely will be getting the ol lady out there to sit on it to hold it still for final alignment. |

So, can I just use this sites calculator http://www.maultechatv.com/techguides/Valve%20Clea rance%20Calculator/ I don't really understand the manual. I'm dense sometimes. |

When we say loosen them up we are talking about going from .011 to .013 right. And the intake from .006 to .009? So will this allow them to wear in between MAX and MIN and then back down to MIN overtime? I just need clarification on this. My head hurts. I had a terrible time with the calipers reading wrong and I got the wrong shims. I made a few work and have .013 on a couple exhausts. Now a friend tells me thats not the direction I should shoot for. |

That is the direction you want to go. Valves typically recede up into the head, which closes the tolerance or tightens it. That makes the number smaller. Loose will make the valvetrain a little bit more noisy but not so much that it will do damage. Heat also closes the gap, so that's why there's a minimum that you don't want to go beyond. If it's too tight, the valves will actually stay open once it's heated up and you run the risk of burning the valves. DAMHIK. |

Thanks Louis. I can rest at ease. My shop is a mess. I want to get this rapped up. Plugs will be in tomorrow. And my wheel was supposed to be here...? The neighbor called I bet it's on her porch cause I'm up an icy hill. |

Valves done. Intakes at .009 and exhausts at .013. A tappy valve is a happy valve. Finger followers are nice and make the removal of shims easy with my magnet. Had a buddy come over to sit on the frame while I put the bolts in the motor mounts. I tried by myself but the rear wasn't chocked so it was moving. Next time I will pull frame. This time I didn't because I got anxious and felt like I would build an engine cradle some other time. Gotta press wheel bearings still. Then I can get her of the strap and stand. Overall a pleasant experience except for the last part with the motor mounts. I put every weight from my gym on the rear end and it still just lifted up and up. |
