So you have this awesome gorgous bike wheather it be if the show room floor or custom build then you have to attach this ugly stamped metal pos to the back of it killing any smooth clean line you have. Lets see peoples solutions to this government issued problem.

Here's what I did with mine. The xb is pretty standard and the Blast I had planned for it while I was building the bike.

A friend of mine HATED them, too.

This was back in the 70's when we were riding Harley's that were mostly hacked up and welded back into bigger pieces of crap than what we started with.

He had a 'side mount' plate on his Knucklehead. Vibrated and broke off the first week it was on.
So, he liked how it looked without, so kept the plate in a jacket pocket.
Told the cop that pulled him over for no plate that it just broke off and he had to get some parts to fix it that night at home.

Just got a warning.

He got the ticket for no plate a couple weeks later when the same cop pulled him over. Oops.

Probably skip that option - it didn't work out for by buddy all that well.

I hate the way they look, too, but haven't got a real solution for it.

Loose has the right idea - make them look like they belong, rather than some afterthought.

That IS awesome.
Just remember to wear the correct jacket for each bike.

Those under fender things are very popular with the squidlies but also illegal pretty much everywhere.

I once saw a rat chopper that had the plate stitched in flush to the rear fender. Got the curve and stretch just right too.
It was a while back so I didn't have a camera.

Legal here means fixed not hinged, lighted, and fully visible from a reasonable distance in all police vehicles wether car or truck and the plate can not be vertical as of 2009 otherwise they said its up to you.
This came right from the police

the PO (Biker dude) that owned my M2 notched the frame to put the plate under the seat! I made a bracket to put it back under the taillight and added signals to the side of it ( he had gotten rid of those too ) Not the best bracket on BWB but it was cheap and I made it in a couple of hours

see my blue M2 at the bottom. I added an extension for additional LED brakelight too

Brian Fuller did a tag mount that swiveled out when you put the kick stand up.

At the 2005 Smoke Out I saw this chopped Buell at Hank Young's 'booth':

The license plate is what intrigued me:

And, YES, we in the USA have MUCH smaller license plates than our brethren in Europe.

Germany has a 'small plate' option now but it's still larger than a US motorcycle plate,

France currently has a small plate for bikes but not for much longer if the gov safety nazis get their way.

Apparently full size plates will make motorcycling safer.

I can see your eyebrows rising & the question on your lips, how?

Well notwithstanding the fact that you'll now have a nice sticky-out plate with edges on to slice yourself and & others that may be struck by the debris, the theory is this.

You'll be riding slower & more responsibly with a large plate because your plate will be more visible to law enforcement, speed cameras, & plate reading cameras for average speed zones & road tolls etc.

Aha, I hear you cry, I can see where this is going, & yeah you're right, as usual the right question to ask is, "where's the money?"

By forcing the change, the gov will make money, on the sales taxes for the plates & on increased fine revenue.

In theory all new registrations & transfers requiring a change of registration number require a full size plate since summer last year & the plate must be an authorized model with the homologation code stamped on.

Oh yes, I forgot to mention, as with all vehicles here the plate MUST by law be rivetted to a fixed, illuminated point at the rear extremity of the vehicle.
