Hi Everyone, I have a new, major problem with my S2T. On my recent ride to the Dragon, it sheared off one of the isolator bracket to head bolts (left side) and this caused the right side of the head to crack. Thankfully it did not completely break, but I had to trailer the bike home. What is the best course of action at this point? Thanks very much for your advice. Adam |

It can be welded, but if it happened to me, I'd replace the head. Maybe even consider it a good opportunity to pick up a stage II 1250 kit. |

Someone here just recently had Pam at Cyclerama fix the same thing. Can ship the head off and have them repair and from what I hear you can be confident it will be done right. But it is a great excuse to go with a 1250 kit as Hootowl suggests. |

Big jump from replacing one head to a 1250 kit. You would still need to repair or replace the front head. If money is no object, then sure, but kind of a apples and oranges deal. (Message edited by essmjay on July 21, 2012) |

Right, that was my thought too. The big bore kit sounds cool, but I think I will start with the more conservative approach suggested by Jim. I had assumed that I would have to replace the head, and was not sure what other bikes (if any) used the same head. Thanks for the help! Adam |

If it's a stock engine, it should just be a plain ol' Sportster 1200 head. Check your part numbers to be safe, if you don't know the bike's history it may have been upgraded to Thunderstorm specs at some point along the way. |

Sure, sure, but if it happened to me, I'd replace the head, and maybe consider the 1250 upgrade. And not knocking Pammy's work (she's the best, and the reigning Queen of the Universe) but I just can't bring myself to trust a weld in cast aluminum in that spot. YMMV |

If it's a stock engine, it should just be a plain ol' Sportster 1200 head. With the proper size holes drilled and threads tapped. OMG...My memory is failing me...Was it just one hole on the S2's that was enlargened? Well, it was nearly 20 years ago... 1313 |

Another question about the Sportster head. It looks like the stock 16682-87A has a stud in the left front side. Does anyone know if it is threaded, so I can just double nut and back it out? Thanks! |
