Ok I park my bike at mcdonalds to grab a little breakfast waiting on my buddys this morning.. this older guy in a scooter just starts to talk to me telling me that my buell is japanese and the parts are made by hyosung they still sale them in europe..I did tell him they stop making buells he said harley is not american no more I told him back in 99 maybe 2011 around their they out source some of their parts but they are still assembled in the us..man this guy got on my nerves I had to tell him to shut up when he told me he work on them. I told him dude you in a 49cc scooter you don't know what you talking about I doubt you know how to work on a harley let alone a buell. Finally leaves me alone some people man. Now our buell have more european styling in it then anything right?? Or |

Tell him it's a Sportster in a tuxedo, with Japanese cuff links. No one who claims to work on Harleys can refuse to recognize your engine as Milwaukee Iron. |

I tell people that my Buell "is a Sportster done right." And if asked why I ride one, I reply that "I like it, which is what matters." As to Tony302's original situation, in my experience no amount of facts and logic are likely to change that persons mind. Something about not being able to fix stupid. What I usually do is tell them I think it is unfortunate they feel that way, as they are missing out on nice conversations with interesting people. |

I know for parts sourcing buell has a lot of parts common with other metric bikes. That guy swore that these bikes were not built here in the USA, then again to get in a argument with some dude in a scooter is stupid and I was not doing so, but I have noticed a lot of people just don't like these bikes cause the motor is from harley and think their slow and I have a lot of fun with proving them wrong I know stock trim the x1 is not hayabusa fast top speed but curves and short straights she keeps up with the best of them. |

When I was in the industry I would hear this drivel occasionally about EVOs- "HD is all Made in Japan, and if you want an American Built bike , Buy a Gold Wing". It was wrong then and still is, and usually came from a shovel head type dude in to buy his 5027th set of exhaust gaskets for his $29 set of drag pipes. Fact is, there are components in both Buells and HD that came from there - Carb and suspension for sure. Buells were assembled in the USA, every one of them. The scooter rider was confused or just one of those sorts that likes to argue. Don't let him work on your bike, and don't let him under your kin. You can't fix stupid, there is an ass for every seat, and if you argue with a moron they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience. |

Not saying the guy was right, but the NOS wiring harness and dash panel I purchased for my 96 S2T restore appear to have been made in China.
HD is a world wide company outsourcing vendors from all over. I don't fault them for it because the employ many Americans in the process. Still the guys sounds like he came off as a total ass hat. (Message edited by kc zombie on November 11, 2013) |

FYI, the frames on later XBs were made in USA. Originally there was not a vendor in the US who had the time/capacity/ability to make the frame. |

Just move north and nobody will bother you about it. My Buell is 100% foreign made. |

I saw a thing years ago which showed Snap-on spanners (wrenches) being made in China. The Chinese can make the best quality for the best price. My Snap-on dealer to this day denies they make wrenches in China. Maybe it was a dream, or a nightmare! Rocket in England |

I was using my iPhone to post this...oh, wait, I guess some super good technology can be designed in the US and built in China... With Buell, and HD, I think it is more about "Designed and assembled it"... I'm thrilled that it is an American designed and built bike built with World class components. Same goes with EBR. Also thrilled that some manufacturing is shifting back to the US for Apple... I also don't argue with men riding scooters...I mean, you just never know... |

Don't even waste your breath, at least not beyond "hey, you should check out a book, it's called 25 Years Of Buell". Turn. Exit, stage left. If they care enough...they'll find the book. If they're smart...they'll absorb some of it. But whether they do or not...you haven't wasted time getting torqued up over a moron. |

You should have just turned the conversation topic on his scooter."Man that's a BadA** scooter you got there what's that hog go like 50-55 mph phew idk how you keep that puppy on the road". And most of them are to dumb to know you are insulting them I normally go on with this as long as possible it always makes me laugh. |

Went into the dealer for new rear tire on Saturday. All the staff came out OOooing And Aaarrring and taking pictures, raving about Buells. Everyone thinks they're an expert when it comes to Buells. I was good to be able to relate to the Buell/EBR comeback. Personally, I don't think the new bikes could recapture the nostalgia associated with these old girls. Interestingly, the guy fitting the tyre didn't have a socket to fit the axle nut. Some sort of American nut he said. Is America the only country in the world not using metric ? |
