I have recollections of several folks attempting to clean or repair their Bosh head lights I got mine apart cleaned and back together, and I have some information to share, sorry no pix as I had my hands full at the time 1. after removing the part from the shell and taking the light bulbs out. look in the back, there are about 8 small wire springs that hold the trim ring to the back. 2. with your fingers grasp the short end of the spring and slip it out from under the metal trim ring, note that there is a gap in the springs and their placement at the top ( to allow the shell to catch there ) pay attention to the arrangement of the springs. as they over lap each other. 3. with all of the springs out, the plated trim ring slips off to the front. the front glass and reflector are stuck together with a rubber gasket, mark the glass and the reflector for line up with a sharpie marker. GENTLY roll the gasket edge back and insert a thin pick between the reflector and the gasket, ( the gasket and front glass stay together ) pick at 2 or 3 locations, pry GENTLY just a little in those locations, the two will begin to separate. IMPORTANT the reflector and front cover are GLASS and will break if you try to "bend" them the front glass has a thin small rim under the gasket which sits in a grove on the edge of the reflector. the gasket appears to be glued to the front glass and "stuck" to the reflector. Once apart I washed and dried the inside front glass ( smoked ) with water dish soap and a paper towel. The reflector was cleaned with a clean dry blue (shop) paper towel, I tried some brake clean on the corner of the towel it made no difference, I handled the reflector with rubber gloves to avoid finger prints on the reflector. I have an hid H4 [ moving ] head lamp the mirroring was kind of frosty at the top side (over the lamp) I am not sure if heat or UV from the lamp damaged it, but removing the dust and smoke residue helped the brightness noticeably. to re assemble place the glass on the reflector line up your marks and ( I dotted super glue at 4 points on the rim, and held it to set ) Important, the top is at 12:00 and the park lamp hole is at 6:00 fit the assembly in the trim ring note that the screw is at the bottom,( 6:00 ) starting at the bottom but the big end of the spring in to the rim and the foot on the bottom just bears on the reflector, gently push the short end under the rim and place all the springs back behind the trim ring, NOTE there is a gap in the clamp spirngs at the 12:00 position to allow the lip of the bucket to catch the trim ring for install sorry for no pics perhaps after I get the light bucket and the hid elevator bind thing sorted out I might post some up. good luck. | ||

I've FINALLY found a place for all the c's that people keep putting at the end of Erik's name... Bosch See what I did there? My washer, dryer, dishwasher and microwave all say Bosch on them, not Bosh. Just sayin'... 1313 | ||

I clean the inside of headlights all the time without disassembly. Take out the bulb, pour in some rubbing alcohol and shove a clean paper towel through the hole. Swish is all around. The paper towel soaked in alcohol will rub all the inside surfaces. Fish out the paper towel, drain the alcohol and blow out the rest with compressed air. Good as new. | ||

But but but the computer showed that they were miss spelled and I was not paying attention....  Bosch Greg, some one recently posted that the silvering had been removed by putting solvent into the headlight trying for a clean out so I did not attempt it. The BMW sites show the headlight as separate pieces, so I perhaps incorrectly conclude that it can be dis assembled current market on the assembly is about 200$ any one have the steel bucket ( un molested ) that they might want to part with? ) |
