I just bought a 98 motor for my 2000 x1 it does not have the hole drilled for the speedometer. Any ideas? There seems to be a place in the casting. Its just not milled out. Can I get it drilled for the sensor? |

The 98 model would have had a drive on the front wheel and a speedo cable rather than the electronic arrangement as fitted to your X1, it could be done but at a fairly substancial cost I would imagine, also that 98 motor may be pre thunderstorm so not as powerfull as your original motor, good luck with the fix |

They made Thunderstorm motors in 98, so it might be. I don't think it's that bad, I have a front drive mechanism you can have (just PM me). You will need a speedo cable, American Sport bike has them for less than $20 and I have seen speedometers for for $25 on eBay. |
